Garage List
17 x 9 ET:30 Hyper-black + PSS 245/40/17 square.
Slightly lowered.
Camber front: -1.9, and rear: -1.6. No rubbing.

Actual weight: <17lbs.

The unsprung weight reduction from stock is noticed on both street and track.

Will try 255 wide after the current tires die (very soon).

Thread revival. I'm about to pull the trigger on a set of 17x9F and 17x9.5R and I'm just trying to nail down tire sizes. I really don't want to run spacers if I don't have to. I was thinking that 245/45/17 and 275/40/17 have almost the same tire diameter. Has anyone run a 245/45/17 front on a 9" wheel? I see everyone running either 255/40/17 or 245/40/17. I'd prefer to have tire diameters as close as possible to the same. This is on a 2011 335is stock suspension, for now.

Why are you staggering? And why wouldn't a 245/45 work?

It is an incredible track. It's worth the trip. My instructor last month was from Upstate, she said it was worth the trip. If you really are thinking about coming, we (BMWCCA) are having another HPDE there this September.

edit- try and ignore my goofy commentary and blowing turn 2.

Holy moly Hyper Black looks good on that paint code. Really appreciate the support guys.

Please let me know if you have any fitment questions.

Fitment question for you. 2013 335is and I'm retro fitting the F30 M Performance big brake kit on my car. My question concerns the rear because I'm thinking of a 17" setup for the strip. Is a 17" wheel possible? Is there a 17" fitment for the F series with the upgraded brakes? This is rear only, I know they won't fit the front. Thanks

This is a great question, I do not see any data on this within our database. Knowing that the 17" ARC-8's will not clear the front M Performance brakes, we have not performed a test fitment in the rear.

17x9 et30 Hyper Black with 245/40/17 Hankook R-S3s. Pretty sure they're v2.

Took them to the Ridge Motorsports Park this weekend, had a blast. The wheels look great, are 10 lbs lighter per corner compared to my 313 19" stockers, and the tires had insane amounts of grip compared to the stock RFTs.

Running Apex 17x9 ET30, 275/40-17 Nitto NT05 at all 4 corners. Stock suspension. Rubs a bit up front on big dips and extreme cornering. Tolerable. Car sees autocross, track days, and street racing

how will my setup workout ? I just purchased 17x9 et30 fronts and 17x9.5 et35 rears . up front I'm planning to run 245/45/17 PSS , and in the rear for track r888 275/40/17 . I referenced a picture of blue e92 you guys posted a while ago with specs and was wondering what else that car had done, it look slightly lowered that's about it .! Thanks !

275/40-17's are a bit wide for a 9" wheel, but they do work. 255/40-17's are a better match, and you would have better sidewall support. The 275/40-17 really should pair up with a 9.5" or 10" wheel.

Also, if a customer wants to run 275's on the front of their 3 series, negative camber will be required through the use of camber plates. Do you have camber dialed in up front?

Happy to help sir, however I am not sure that I understand your tire fitment. To make sure that we are in the same page, I have a few questions:
  • What tires will you run front and rear on the street?
  • What tires will you run front and rear for the track?
  • Also, can you clarify what you mean by "track". Are we talking about HPDE's or drag racing?
  • What suspension are you running?
  • Do you have camber plates?

No. I run 17x9 ARC-8s on my 335is for the track, and haven't seen anything like that.

Do you notice a difference between two wheels or are you just trying to figure out why your brakes fade really fast?

Keep in mind if you're talking about brake temp differences between wheel sizes, you have to keep everything else constant before you can really point to that. As in running same tire, similar ambient temps, similar driving patterns, etc.

I'm curious to hear what you're thinking. I've never heard of smaller wheels causing issues there, in fact everywhere suggests as small as you can go for the track and still fit over your brakes.
