My main goal here was to replace my CCC head unit as the DVD drive is dying and I wanted to use this oppt to upgrade to the newer HDD head units from the CIC. Then I figured I could go 1 step further and just replace the display at the same time, skipping the OE CIC display and just using one of the newer android ones. However, since they ask whether your car is CIC or CCC when purchasing the display, I assumed that the display isnt what dictates CCC or CIC So I needed clarification on the points in my OP because I need to tackle the guts of the CIC conversion with a few exclusions.

So you just need a lvds cable if you're buying an android kit for cic, but then if you do that it may not work with a ccc controller.
You'd be best to buy a ccc android unit if it comes with a new screen. As you already have the correct knob and the ccc screen wiring. |

Just because the plug is the same doesn't mean they're cross compatible. The CIC controller has 7 buttons not 1 as per ccc.
An android h/u designed for one may not work with the other. |

So, I'm new to the forum and new to BMW's. I've owned a Mini for many years and played with a lot of stuff on it.
I just purchased an '06 E91 wagon with a lot of issues which I'm happy to work through. One of which is a dead CCC. I believe the head unit has died so my thought is instead of finding/buying another CCC head unit, I would like to do the upgrade to CIC. I am not having much luck searching the forum and weeding through the information... Can someone give me some good links to the the upgrade... i.e.: What has to change (it appears the head unit and CID with some cabling) and more important what is compatible CIC units if I want to try the Junk yard approach??? Thanks for any help! |

There is a 2010 535i that just came in to the local picknpull that has everything. If it's just a fit issue I might go ahead and grab it for the time being until something else shows up... EDIT... BTW, I ask this because mine right now is DEAD (see post above) so I have no radio, no display, no nothing. I would like to at least have the radio for now until I can get a unit that is correct for the car. Thanks! Last edited by JohnWizz; 03-25-2022 at 11:56 AM.. |
