Rear shocks - Should they rotate freely by hand?
Quick question:
Should i be able to spin the rear shocks around by hand while the car is jacked up? i'm trying to diagnose a rear clunk and it wasn't the end links |

They shouldn't spin. There are two nuts holding the rear shock in place, and they're both pretty easy to get to. Check them both, sounds like the bottom one is loose. Maybe also check the two torx bolts holding the bottom shock mount in place. Both bolts and the nuts are on the underside of the rear lower control arms.

Probably you did find the problem. Since you will be there replace the shocks and both, bottom and top mounts, not just the bottom.

I replaced mine shocks and mounts at around the same time (50k) and reused the bump stops. However they failed at around 80k. I replaced them with the shock still on the car. I just disconnected the top mount.

I would replace the rear bump stops while you're in there. Mine failed at 60k
