Has anyone tried putting a QI wireless charger inside their e90?

Hey there,

I was thinking of trying to do a nice QI wireless charging mod on my e90.
This would go along the Eonon radio I plan on putting in the future.

Has anyone got tips or has anyone tried installing a wireless phone charger?
It seems like a nice and minimalist idea.

I have only recently joined the E9x club, but I have thought that it would be very cool to have a wireless charger in the front arm rest enclosure. I'd have no idea how to go about it, though.

Yeah. I thought about the exact same thing.
I don't think anyone has done it on an e90.

I was looking at doing the same. ECS sells a retro fit that looks like it would fit inside the center console. Looks like it would be easy enough to tap into the cigarette lighter that is in most center consoles.

if you like genuine but pricy solution, there is wireless charging cradle for F-series
but it will work with any car with baseplate
http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=03_4184
it is can be installed even in car without preparation, if you can wire necessary signals

also some biggest smartphones simply will not fit in it, but....

I put a Qi mat under the "sunglass holder" that some people have instead of an ashtray, and it worked great with my last phone - a Samsung S4 - but it didn't work with my S8. I bought a new mat that supports faster charging and tested it a bit in my current car under the plastic shelf in front of the nav, but it wasn't strong enough to reliably charge so I didn't bother adding one again

I've been pondering this for my E92. I just haven't thought of a good location that is convenient and out of the way yet. It would have to be easier than just grabbing the wired charger out of the glove box to make it worth the effort.

I’d like to try this - wondering if you could tell me what mat you used?

Thanks!

Had a thread going awhile back.

There are a few options. That center console was where the original iPhone kit went - abound with spring loaded snap points, etc. Personally I like to see the phone as it has alerts as well as messages and music apps/collection. Though I can see if you are going to implement CarPlay or something, that you wouldn't need to see it -- androids actually have the advantage with most of those replacement radios (screen mirroring).

I didn't use any mat - just installed the qi coils to the bottom of the dish and it worked through the plastic and the stock rubber mat. My coils came with a LED that changed colors depending on charging so I drilled a tiny hole in the back of the plastic tray at the top and attached the LED to the back of that, and filled the hole with a small bubble of glue that acted like a lens so I could see the charging status. That was the only visible difference from stock
