some cars have more rust than others so the o2 can be seized differently. My car was from New Jersey so everything was seized lol. The shop was shocked to see all the rust on the bolts that hold subframe.

If you have MHD just disable cold starts and it wont be much of an issue. I personally think the combination is too loud.

Here is a video of mine

N55 sounds the best. Better than N54 and better than the s55 on the m4.

So I would like to know, preferably from people who did it on their xDrive 335 or from people who knows about the process, how to install the downpipes.

I have heard that you need to drop the subframe in order to access the downpipes mounting point. Does the whole subframe have to come off or you can just lower it a bit? Do you have to remove the steering rack?

Any details or insight is appreciated!
Did mines not too long ago and it's possible to do without dropping the subframe but it is a pita to get the turbo band off took me about 5 hours to do

To be clear...the N55 only has ONE turbo and ONE downpipe. So in our language its incorrect to refer to something that is singular in the plural form.

1 turbo = turbo
1 downpipe = downpipe

2 turbos = turbos
2 downpipes = downpipes

There I said it. You're welcome to all those reading this thread saying "does my car have 2 turbos or 1?" or "do these guys really not know what they're talking about?"

N54 came with 2 turbos
N55 came with 1 turbo

Also a pet peeve of mine. "I installed downpipes on my n55..."

My xdrive n55 downpipe is about ready to go on my RWD e92 so i will be able to see if its fits. Prior owner snapped studs so those are drilled out and all cat material is removed. just need to find gaskets that aren't $30...

anyone?

Yeah my mistake there Haha. Don't know why but downpipes always sounded better in the sentence but there is indeed only one downpipe.

I have a 2011 e90 335ix 6MT, and I installed my downpipe on jack stands without dropping the subframe. You 100% do not need to. Maybe it's different for auto trans? I'm not sure.

Take off the pass wheel and fender liner. You work half thru there, half from underneath.

I was thinking about giving it a quick look but now I will definitely try to work from there. Thanks a lot!

It can be done from the wheel well. I have a buddy with an 2011 335xi e92 did it recently, he had to remove, wheel, caliper, rotor, axle, and loosen or drop a few more suspension parts, but not the subframe I know for sure. He's on the forum here, I'll see if he can get on and give you a quick DIY.

Wow that would be really nice, but even with this info I get to have a bit more of an idea of what to do! Thanks a lot.

He said it took him 7 HOURS!!! LOL! All the bolts around it were rusty as all hell. He had to cut the catalytic converter itself to get it out. The o2 sensors were rusted in the catalytic converter so bad he couldn't get them out so he's currently running o2-less. It was a car from New York. Lots of salt on the roads when it snows/ices. I'm sure you can relate up in the Great White North.

I asked about that and everyone told me to not remove cold starts as it's not wise even if your catless.

I guess it makes sense if you remove the shock maybe and the control arms and the end link which should not be bad at all. Better than dropping sub frame u work from under the car all the time.

You should probably get it aligned if you do all of that, right? Would you have to if you dropped the subframe to get it out? Just thinking from a $$ standpoint.

Yes most likely. Although i heard if ur not touching the tie rod alignment is not needed but its not a bad idea.

It would add to cost yes.
