N57 330d oil leak

Hi

Noticed this morning that my car has developed an oil leak. It's an 2009 300d N57.

I have had a quick look and it looks like its coming from the inlet side of the engine. Is there anywhere on this side of the engine that is common for oil leaks?

Thanks

My 330d had a similar leak which turned out to be oil filter housing gasket.

Hmm OK I will have a look cheers.

Is there anywhere online you would recommend buying parts or am I best off finding a local dealer?

I had a leak in the same area which came from a small crack in the plastic oil filter housing. If you remove the engine cover and run the engine you should be able to locate the leak.

I recently had 2 oil leaks with my N57 330d. 1st was done under warranty as a sump tray issue, the 2nd was oil filter housing gasket and o ring. If you PM me your email address, I can forward you the diagnosis from BMW (including walk around video of the problem so you can compare) and also the official quotation with part numbers. Not very expensive to fix if you can DIY. Cotswold quoted around £25 posted for parts

Thanks for all your help guys

Had a look last weekend and the leak looks to have been coming from the oil filter housing gasket on the block but has strangely stopped it's self.

The car is due an oil service soon so I'll get the guys at a1bn to take a look and see if the gasket needs to be replaced.

Don't be fooled. Mine did the same thing. Then all of a sudden it lost a whole load of oil in a day or 2.

Sorry for dragging up an old thread for my first post.
I have an oil leak on my 2010 330d Lci and I believe it is coming from the oil filter housing. Is there a good write up anywhere on tackling the gasket change on an N57? I have seen some for the M57 but have yet to see on for the N57?
Any help greatly appreciated.

Mine was changed as part of a service so I don't have a guide.
I can't see the process being too disimilar to the M57.

Is there anything out there for the N47 as that may give a clear direction.

If you change the gasket also replace the o ring inside the housing. I found out the hard way and dropped loads of oil.

Its not too hard of a job to do

Remove oil filter
Unclip inlet hose for extra access
5 bolts on the housing

You will loose a bit of coolant so remember to top it back up once you replaced the gasket and o ring.
