320i e93 08 automatic transmission HELL!!!

Honestly I am so confused need help ASAP cars been sitting so long now. I've got the zf6hp21 gearbox . It slips out of gear like a jolt or as if someone in a manual can't change properly between 2-3 . Also for some reason don't laugh please only when I turn RIGHT it seems to want to rev up and not actually turn/stay in gear. It's fine left turning and straight only revs up when turning right!!! . Have changed the mechatronics sleeves inside from a garage I practically did it with them so I know it's all perfect and changed. Have changed the oil too wasn't low but changed it filled to the max. Same issue. 😕😕😕. Gearbox light still comes on from time to time but it's practically undriveable and makes me so upset seeing it sit there outside my doorstep all day! Someone help PLEASE

has the fluid ever been changed?

sounds like it could be solenoid based or the turning trigger could be a loose connection somewhere?

It sounds like the fluid is low. It has to be checked with the engine running and trans in neutral. When the trans was refilled after thr fluid change did you refill it like this?
1. Refill the trans.
2. Start the car and run it through all the gears.
3. Leave the engine running in neutral and top up the fluid again. This is quite a critical procedure.

There's a filler plug on the Lh rear of the transmission. You need to
1. remove that filler plug
2. Fill with fliud until it starts spilling out the filler plug hole
3. Put filler plug back in loosely
4. Start the engine, run it through all the gears
5. Leave engine running, put trans in neutral
6. Remove the filler plug and fill trans until the fluid starts coming out the filler hole again.
7. Refit filler plug and tighten. Job done.

I wouldn't bother worrying about loose connections just yet. The transmission fluid level has to be correct first or it will never drive properly.

I have a feeling there was a gearbox oil leak prior and wasn't noticed and car was driven on low oil for some time causing damage to the mechatronic unit i had similar issue with the 730d.

Automatics are a pain, most gearbox "specialists" just swap your unit for used unit. Rare to find an honest workshop that have in-depth engineering knowledge of automatics.

btw i "think" these automatics can't be filled like the old fashion way they need specialist equipments to do properly double check that.

If you do another refill then why not try transmission adaption reset. Good Luck keep us updated

you dont need specialist equipment, but the procedure to fill it up is correct as listed above by neilj. From what i was told when i had mine done, the gearbox fluid must be at a certain temperature when filling it up also.

The garage that replaced the sump, did the tighten it up as per the correct procedure? If they didn't do it correctly it could have warped the plastic sump if it was incorrectly tightened up.

Quote me if I'm wrong but don't you need to get the transmission oil to 30 to 35 degrees (monitored by something like INPA) before topping up again after leaving it running and having gone through the gears?

From someone who went through automatic gearbox problems and paying (throwing) money hoping to fix the problem yet not really knowing what the actual problem is i would recommend you just going direct to ZF. I've put the details below "hopefully" they can give you an answer.

Good Luck and kindly keep us updated

gearbox wear on clutches etc is not going to be fixed by a seervice kit,,also there are strict procedures to follow..like has been said,,you have to get the oil to temp while running car in gears .wheels off ground etc,,hillbilly fixes wont work on these transmissions
