Glow plug module, or glow plugs?
My code is 004A2E "Glow plug cylinder 5, control"
All- I'm very familiar with the fact that glow plugs go on the diesels. I did have a failed thermostat, and had to drive on it for a bit. I would assume I'd have to replace the module. What I'm wondering, is maybe it's just the control module? Being that I could replace the control module without pulling the intake, what're the chances that a new module will fix the issue? I suspect I'm fully capable of taking the manifold off, but right now I have no leaks or issues, and I really prefer to avoid removing the manifold if I can. Sorry for making yet another thread: I just found 2 older ones. Looks like I should change the controller, and maybe check the resistance to see if #5 is out of this world off from the others. Being that the code says "control" in it, I'm kind of thinking it'll end up being the controller.

the key to an "intake on" GPM change on the X5 is using a 1/4" socket set with a long extension. it has to go between coolant lines and getting your hand to the big connector is a little tougher. you can use my video i liked in another thread for a reference. Just know it wont be as easy as the 335. it took me about an hour to do my first X5 GPM replaced.

Thanks, I saw your other reply too. I was planning on using your video, and it's ok if it takes a while. As long as I don't have to remove the intake, I've got alllll the time in the world.

In case you did not go back and read my thread update on this, I only changed the controller and SES is now off. Based on the overwhelming evidence it's almost always the controller, I did not waste the time to ohm out the glow plugs. One of my difficulties was I did not squeeze hard enough on the tabs to release the large plug. At least one side (if not both) should give an audible click.

The intake box back on. I gave it a good look, and I believe i’d Be able to get the bolts off from above, but I couldn’t seem to get my hand down there to I clip either connector. My main issue is not being about to see where the clip is for the circular one, and. It being able to touch the big one with much force. I was, however, looking at coming from below as a route to reach the clips. If I come from under the driver’s seat, and get my hand uo towards the block, there looks to be a pretty clear path up to the connector area. Still going to have to deal with the coolant hoses to get the bolts, but I’ll hojpefully have a chance to get under the car on Wednesday and try to reach the clips. |

I do not think you can reach the connectors from the underside. Last x5 i did deletes on i took a peek at that route and i think the x drive junk is in the way.
You need a long skinny screw driver to unclip the round connector I laid across the front on the motor (more on the drivers side) and i was able to get my hand on the big connector.. A remove the 1 bolt on the oil filter housing holding the coolant hose and use a 1/4" extension about a 12" and will fit between the coolant hoses and you can get the screws off. |
