Another track day has come and gone and these things are the real deal. No fade. So damn consistent.

My pedal went soft (brand spanking new Motul added the day before too... sheesh...should went with the race version...) before I could even try to make the pads say uncle.

I have the new pads on, and I've gone through the bed in process three times now.

The pedal feel is definitely different than it was with the stock pads. The feel is definitely MUCH better now that they are broken in. It almost feels like the stock pads would go from 0% braking force straight to 20% braking force with a very stiff initial feel. These pads feel a bit more linear, with a more linear feel when first applying the brakes. When standing on them, they feel just as firm as the stock pads.

I also put in some new brake fluid for the track, so there is always the possibility that some air in the lines is causing the different feel I have.

I'm looking forward to seeing how they feel out on track on the 12th. I was surprised that they didn't really fade even after the 10th stop of the brake in process.

Any update on your track day on the 12th? After the bed-in process, did you notice any squealing?

I just got my CC pads installed as well, along with EBC Turbo Groove rotors, steel brake lines and ATE Blue Racing fluid. I have already done the bedding process (4 times even, as recommended with new rotors), and the brakes feel much better than at the beginning. I still believe I'll see some improvement (more bite) after some hundreds km more, but so far I'm quite happy as there was almost no fade even after the 15th consecutive brake from 120 km/h to 30 km/h.

Can anybody tell me how they compare to e.g. Pagid RS29? I had these and I was dissappointed. Lot of dust, not really impressed by the bite, and they wore down fast IMO. And they are expensive (at least here in Europe), meaning around 600 EUR ! for front and back, which IMO they are not worth.
The cool carbons look like a bargin compared to the RS29, that is why I am a bit sceptical... Anybody had the change to compare?

Here's my experience. I've had them now for 6000km and took part to three track-days. I used them on the Salzburgring which those who ever been there know how fast of a track is. At the end of the pit straight you arrive around 210/220km and in less than 150 meters you slam the brakes to take the a double turn in second at 60/70 km/h.

Now my pads are used about 60% and maybe they are their best in terms of braking distance. I enjoy "thresold braking" nearly every time this is possible (daily).

Even if that question was not addressed at myself, I can give you an idea: I paid 195.46 USD at Autoindividual.com (the rebate for E90post was still applicable, otherwise it's 229.95 USD) and paid 40 USD shipping to Europe.

The pads held up really well for me at my track day at VIR.

I was using Dunlop Z1 Star specs for my tires, and I didn't have any fade in the 25 minute run sessions. They seemed to have consistent braking performance, and my tires went off well before the brakes had a chance to get too hot.

As for the pad feel, they definitely started to feel much better after a couple hundred miles of normal driving, even after doing the bed in process several times.

This is my first time using Ceramic pads, and they do have a different pedal feel than other pads I've used. I previously used Hawk HP+ on my Subaru STi.

Also, I didn't buy them because of dust, but I am AMAZED at how much less dust sticks to the wheels. They coated my wheels during the initial break in period, but after that, it has been remarkable how much less dust they leave on the wheels.

I just put a set on my 335i sedan, as well as putting on ECS's stainless brake lines. I have to say that the stock set up had a very aggressive pedal feel. When I first started driving the car, almost everytime I touched the brakes I'd hit the seat belts.

After putting these pads on, it really reduced that initial bite. They seem to have a much more progessive application, to the pount that I had the mechanic bleed out the brake fluid three times just to be positive that I didn't have air in the lines. (I thought that perhaps that intial firm pedal going away was caused by an air bubble in the lines).

The break in period has been fine, and I so far they seem to have excellent feel. I can always know where the brake is in it's travel, and how close to lock-up I am. I'm going to Road America this weekend for Oktoberfest with the Badger Bimmers of Miluakee. That will be the ultimate test.

Mr. 5, did you notice the brake pedal losing the initial bite? Any reason for it? Thanks, I swear I think you know more about this model than the mechanic who worked on my car, and he's a specialist mechanic that works primarily on BMW's.

I have definitely observed the same thing. The stock pads bit hard early, while the Cool Carbons seem to have a more gradual bite with pedal pressure. The total stopping power is still there, but the amount of travel for a given stopping force is different.

I'm not sure about how I feel about that on the street, but I liked it a lot on track. I was able to get nice consistent threshold braking without engaging the ABS.

That's funny because my BMW tech said the same thing.
Anyways, you'll notice a much better feel once the pads break in a little more.
Give it a couple weeks and then give us your impressions.

Cool Carbon Performance will be releasing the ST version (RT version later) of the brake pads for the Stoptech ST-60, ST-40 and ST 22 calipers which includes the Trophy version shown below. All Stoptech versions of the ST pads will come with a wear sensor slot which is not available by any other brake pad manufacture. The pads should be released very shortly.

The Stoptech system is fantastic but the PFC 1038 brake pads just don’t cut it and I acutely preferred the stock brake system with Cool Carbon pads but not for long. This should be my last mod later this month (maybe this year).
