finally got a notice regarding Takata

If I do nothing, a check is cut in Jan 2020. If I call them, a check will be cut sooner. I'm just a member, not the lead. But when I look at the situation, it is clearly an example of where when entities deny culpability and responsiblity, they come out far ahead.

Reminds me of some people I know, where in getting divorced, they decided to destroy their spouse (who happens to have their kids) as well.

Just think, this was going on in 2016. 4 years?

I think we should start taking a poll as to how much the check will be. Of course with the personal information redacted, would you be willing to post an image of the check so we can verify the amount?

My vote is $15.23.

I just did some math, $553 mil., 16 mil. vehicles, attorney's get 1/3, that comes out to $23. lol

But since it is across all makes, all bets would be off. Pretty sure BMW fought hard to make their liability even less. That's why they offered loaner cars. Pound wise, not pound foolish.

I did that same math 3 years ago when I got the lawsuit notification. I even posted about it. I decided $15 wasn't worth the trip to the bank to deposit the check.

Actually I got a $12 check from Sylvania and it could not be deposited online, said so on the back.

I then went into the bank and was dumbfounded. A person said can we help you? I said yes, I am looking for a deposit slip. I swear no less than 3 people burst out laughing.

"We haven't used deposit slips in about 5 years." WTH? Well I wouldn't have known because I don't go into banks for any reason at all. My wife may 3X/yr. to pay the sewage/county/school taxes, as in our case, Wells Fargo and Citizens Bank take the payments.

Anyway BMW has recalled more cars and says not to drive them? what?!

Yeah Takata made another 1 million car recall like 100k from bmw I think.

And yes, if you have a airbag that could potentially be like a frag grenade I think it's normal for them to say to not drive the car

100% serious, I think all cars say to inspect air bags every 10 years. Would anybody really do that? How can it even be done? It's not like you check tie rods for play, look for bushings that are cracked, it would seem airbags work, or they don't, or they're faulty. Or am I naive, where they can be verified to be in good order? Doesn't seem to be the case if they need to be recalled.

Anyway, OT but somewhat related, I just fixed a twisted seat belt buckle in my wife's SUV. I didn't think it could be done--it was like David Copperfield. Thank goodness for YouTube!

I mean I agree as you say can't really inspect a air bag. But the reason it's recalled s because there were 2 accident with a 1998 BMW and one with a 2000 3 series and both drivers died due to shrapnel. So they just call a recall and on all of them and they will probably replace all cars with that model airbag.

Hahaha yeah, nice! it was a PITA to fix mine on my E92... I had to push the buckle pin out I thought it was one time use but was able to pin it back in!

Dear customer:

We apologize that we got caught for putting grenades in your steering wheels for many years and will likely continue to do so after paying some people off.

Here's 15 bucks because of what some lawyers said.

Sincerely,
-Takata

At least they said sorry!

But it is rather sad if the entire reason for the exercise that dragged on for years was simply for lawyers to get 1/3.
