Well it's actually a complaint I have with BMW... Park Lane quoted me £275 for the software update. Cotswold quoted me £118 but Stephen James have quoted me the £100 so I booked it in with them (bearing in mind I already paid Cotswold £200 for the activation code and maps)

Maybe worth holding off your booking until I report back next Wednesday evening!

How do you know your car is not up to date? It could have been done at any service or warranty issue since late 2010, they don't tell you. It doesn't appear on service bills if they do it FOC.

You need to try the DVDs first, then book it in if it needs I perhaps??

Also, has you car had the free OBD theft 'security' update? if so, that should update the integration level of the car thus giving the lastes nev OS to you for free.

7 digit nav postcodes only appeared in the Map data in late 2010, in line with this BMW also updated the NAV o/s to handle 7 digit postcodes.

So if either your map data or the NAV o/s is pre late 2010 you cannot use 7 digit postcodes.....

as before, if you've had the obd security update, I would expect this to update the integration of the whole car, which would include 7 digits...

I don't know it's not up to date... I can only go by what the dealer has told me.

But I knew nothing about a free OBD theft 'security' update either. If as you say this will update the integration level of my car and give me the latest nav OS, I will owe you several beers or a bottle of nice wine or something as a thank you...

Is there any more information on this? I am finding the search function on this forum less than helpful

I take it you are aware of the thefts of BMWs by OBD key cloning, as shown on Watchdog? And the subsequent free fix offered to BMW owners??

The fix is a joke really, but it involves a FOC vehicle update by BMW.

BMW 'fix' here http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=766613

Watchdog info here www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=742511

more stuff http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=766167

happy reading.....

I knew about the theft problem, just didn't realise the software update would update my navigation.

I'm paying BMW £100 for the update for the software, so all sorted now. They will do the OBD update while it's in, next Thursday

As I can't post new threads yet I think it fits under here as much as anywhere. I have a sept 2010 318i m sport business with the business sat nav with hdd and USB n the glove box. Could some kind soul point me to the right nav update downloads for the 2013 update for this system. Finding it a bit confusing as to which I need and would like to work out which before I go ahead and pay for the code I need.

Thanks

Welcome Moriath.

If the discs (which are going round) are booked up for a while you could goto any BMW dealer and order the 2013 premium discs. They should be around about the £25 mark.

Once you've done this, email: ***************** with your vin number and he'll provide you the necessary activation code (this costs €50).

That's all that's required and as soon as you put the 1st disc in the DVD slot (there's 3 discs in total) it will ask you for the code and give the necessary instructions.

It's a simple as that

Finally, you could download the maps yourself, but I hear this can be a bit of a pain and you need to use dual layer discs or correctly arrange the folders on a USB drive. I took the hit and went to see my local dealer.

You say premium discs but I have business nav soi assume I will need different discs or USB files as the business doesn't take DVD only cd as far as I know. Therefore USB is the only way to update. I don't mind buying the discs if I know which ones to get hehe

Not sure about the business system. But if there's no DVD slot, I assume the USB option is the only option available (as you say).

I'm sure somebody will be along shortly to enlighten us both.

I've read the last 9 pages and I think I'm right in saying that as my 2008 58 E92 has CCC nav, I just have to download the latest 1-disc nav disc and insert it into the DVD drive, replacing my 2009 disc? I don't need an activation code or anything?

Does anyone have a download link for the latest DVD?

Want to know the same! I used to have CIC when i started this thread but now have CCC!

Any decent recommendations to what disks we can use? Maybe some links? I know there are DVDs we can buy but i'd rather get one that's been recommended.

it then lists the area but no street name,
u then click street and have to enter the first 2 or 3 digits ,
its narrows it down but its not like tom tom or the bmw fo2 yr2011

Hi guys i tried to read through most of the thread but kinda got confused...

Basically i have a June 2009 professional idrive with the hard drive disk sat nav and usb port in the glove box for copying songs to the internal hard drive in the car.

I also have a cd drive on my head unit but NO dvd drive (as i didnt get the dvd/tv option)

What would be the steps i need to take to go about updating my sat nav because currently i believe it is on Premium-2008 1 or 2, something like that but deffo the 2008 one which i also found odd considering i had a 2009 car!

Any info is much appreciated thanks!

Stick a DVD in and check. It should play while the car is stationary. I have no TV but I have DVD function.
