Post up some pics if you take on this project. Love to see your results!

Update: So I used the Krylon tint and it really did not match for me. Had more of a purple tint to it. I only painted the clear area so you can see the difference. It did look much better but I am going to try the VHT paint and see if that one is more red. I actually got it all off using a scratch remover compound so no problem.

SoCalHarley - Did you do only 1 coat? And I think it still looks pretty good.

Yes just one coat. It really wasn't the amount of paint the color is just off IMO. Has a bit of purple in it.

Did you by chance use the 9021 vs the 9020?

Well that answers that question.... when I read the OP there was no indication of different reds. It looks like I ordered the middle one which is the darker red one. It seemed like the cap color was off but I did not think there were multiple colors. Thanks for the post. Unfortunately I already ordered the VHT version. Hopefully that will match OK.

Great info. I had no idea that there was a purplish/red version of the Krylon spray paint. And it was surprising to see that the one coat came out purplish, because mine (with the pure red spray) looked almost perfect.

Yea I bet the red one would have been perfect. The good news was it came off. I hope the VHT version is a good match.

I definitely used the "true red" 9020 can and it came out perfectly.
Can u make out the purple in the paint clearly? In the pics (via Bimmerpost App) just looks like a tinted red. Almost smoked I guess?

Yes it definitely has a purple tint to it. If you wanted a dark tint look and did the whole tail light it might actually look good. I just want to match that clear upper corner.

Hey mate
I a going to purcase some rustoleom glass spray in red today to hopefully do the lights of my e92

Is it pretty much the same process as with the e92s our whole lights is just one peice, an also the finish you get, is it a nice smooth glass touch?

I wouldn't imagine the process to be too different from the e90's. As others have pointed out, just make sure you get the red Krylon spray, not the purple/red color (see a few posts up for reference)

I wouldn't say mine looked as good as the actual lens of the tail light but you wouldnt really notice the difference. There we slight pieces of dust in the paint but were nearly undetectable. Just make sure you clean the section to be sprayed.

has anyone just painted the white portion? Painting the whole inner still makes it seem like the lower part got darker in the OP's pictures.

Looking to do this today, but with VHT. Does anyone sand or use clear coat after?

Hi Guys!

I am new in here. A lot of good stuff in here :-)

Inspired by this thread I just did a paintjob on my old OEM rear lights. I have an E91 build year 2006. It seems to me the lights on the trunk of the E91 are a bit wider that the ones on the E90. This makes the white line a bit longer if it is to fit with the rest.

Hot or not? I still have original blacklines in spare ;-)

Nice DIY, I ended up going the with the vinyl method just on the reverse light section. Both methods look great if done properly.
