Battery Question

Gents,

collected the car from the garage on saturday it was sitting on the forecourt for a month in cold weather so the battery was bound to loose some punch, now the stop start isnt working (possibly down to this) and the heated rear window isnt working either and isnt automatically cutting out after 20 mins (again poss down to low battery) now im doing 75 miles a day as of yesterday and 60 of those miles are motorway miles, how long should i give it before the battery should be back up to scratch? everything else on the car is fine electrically,

oh i must add on saturday after picking the car up and i was sat with the engine off the yellow battery light came on.

Steve

I'm not saying that your battery hasn't deteriorated however the stop start function is deliberately not set to run when temperatures outside is cold. Can't remember what off the top of my head, perhaps 5c.

I was thinking that but its been over 3 degrees so it should still kick in, even when i press the switch to turn it off no warning to say its off appears in the dash,

battery

Even tho you have done a couple of long trips the battery may not be topped up enough ! Stop start is the first thing to shut down if its only a bit below par. Mine did 6 or 7 trips to Wales (150 miles each way) and still didn't work until I charged the battery for 8 hours.

There's got to be something wrong with your charging system and / or battery if it takes over 2000 miles plus an 8 hr charge to bring it up to the correct voltage. Based on that, and my mix of 1 - 2 miles and 30 - 40 miles journeys, I'd have a permanently semi flat battery :-( One of your trips to Wales should've been more than enough to sufficiently charge your battery so that everything worked properly.

Got into the habit of charging it every weekend for a couple of hours and it was still going strong for over 12 months till I sold it in October and bought a F31.!!! Never once let me down or even sound sluggish to be honest. Charge it under the bonnet!
