I love the exhaust note of my 335is, the blurp it makes when shifting and the tone is just awesome. However I am looking to go a little louder. I am afraid if i do catless downpipes it will be too loud and raspy (IS mufflers are already loud enough for most people). My second option is removing the secondary cats by either cutting them or by buying the borla racing pipes for the mid section. What do you guys think I should go with? If you have any exhaust clips of the 335is with downpipes or secondary cat delete that would be very appreciated,

I also have catless downpipes from my previous 335i and thought they sounded great. I wanted to put them on my 335is and would like to hear what that would sound like in advance...or opinions of sound per the OP's question.

I have AA catless dp on my IS with exhaust sound ferocious don't hesitate on it just do it.

I drive a 2010 E90 M 335i with BMS catless downpipes and the BMW PE. It's quiet when cruising but enjoyably loud the rest of the time. I love the sound and would highly suggest adding catless downpipes. If you like the exhaust note then you'll love the turbo spool from the DP's.

I have AR catless on my IS and I am not a big fan as it is too raspy for me. I am hoping to get resonators installed soon. It is so loud right now when I start up in the morning.

BTW, I had AR in my previous 335i with stock exhaust and I loved it

Go catless. If the rasp is too much for you, you can always upgrade from the OEM to Vibrant resonators and/or add a second set of resonators in place of the OEM Secondary Cats

Racing Pipes in the mid-section will probably create more drone than anything else.

I have AR catless "resonated" dp coming soon for install. Hopefully this will eliminate raspy sound that some 335is user reported after installing catless dp.
I am also going to change midpipe cats to 200 cell metallic cats.
Rest of the system will stay stock.

Sorry to comment on such an old thread but what were the outcomes of everyone's venture with the 335is and catted down-pipes and added resonators to the midpipe?

I just went catless down-pipes and it is to raspy for me and am looking to go catted or resonated down-pipes. was looking to see everyone's outcome.

example is a (probably) fully catless 335i, with performance exhaust, downpipes and most importantly, x-pipe.

Thanks buddy. I know there are not a whole lot of 335is to start with and even less modded. So looking for some 335is owners and what they did after down pipes if it bothered them. I want to know if going catted will really help. That is my next step.

Thanks Mike, I understand catless is the way to go for performance. , I just wish I could squeeze some resonators in along with the mid-cats as I am running catless down-pipes. Just looking for a way to get rid of the loud rasp that is so apparent with the 'is' exhaust. Also with a convertible you hear it so much more since you are now right the on top of it.

And in Florida if it's not raining the top is down

Which is why I have asked going catted like a Cobb or c-Pe would resolve this?

I've heard the 335is exhaust with DPs and it does sound a bit raspy when the car is WOT. But it's really not that bad. It's no where near as raspy as a catless N54 with muffler delete. It's all personal preference though.

I have the IS exhaust with catless DP's and originally removed my stock secondary cats. Very raspy and this car for whatever reason was worse than my other catless cars as far as smell goes. Horrible to drive. So I was able to squeeze in vibrant resonators AND vibrant race cats. Had to go with the crazy expensive OBD 2 race cat version because they are so much shorter to get them to fit. Good for up to 850 HP. But very pricey. For me worth every penny. Absolutley no smell or rasp, the exaust sounds awesome. Did before and after dyno's and didnt lose any WHP.

Since I still have my mid-cats I wonder if I could somehow squeeze the resonators in?

No problem. I went with Vibrant model 1792 resonaters which helped the rasp almost 100%. Its a tough fit to run both and Im not 100% sure you could fit the OEM cats with the resonators. For the cats I went with Vibrant model 7830. I got kind of a deal on them as the fabricator I had build my exhaust got them at cost, but they even with that they were around $800 for the pair. I was seeking WHP so I didnt want the stockers but wanted something for smell. All in all I could have bought a full exhaust for what I paid for everything. But if had to do it over again, I would have done the exact same thing. Great sound but civil driving around, no smell, and no WHP loss. The resonaters are around $100 for the pair, so you may want to just get them and see if a good fabricator can make it fit.
