I've reached out to Redline directly inquiring about this but just wanted to get some additional feedback from the community about running Waterwetter https://www.redlineoil.com/waterwetter in the N52/N51.

On the technical sheet https://www.redlineoil.com/Content/f...ech%20Info.pdf it states not to use this product where there is Magnesium in the cooling system. I know the N52/N51 has some magnesium in the engine block so I don't know if this will be a big no-no.

My search of the forums came across two posts below where they've ran Waterwetter but just wanted to get further confirmation:

I'm planning to add this to a 60/40 mix of BMW coolant just for shits and giggles in the hot Socal climate.

It's probably safe but what's the point? It's still going to run at the commanded engine temperatures. it's not like N52s have issues with overheating..

no coolant ever touches the magnesium in the N52. if it did, it would corrode really fast.

I refilled with 60/40 water/coolant before I pulled a 2000 pound trailer 2100 miles from Orange County to Alabama in the middle of July. Coolant never exceeded 215 F. For reference, coolant routinely reaches 210F at 65mph on the highway with just me in the car.

You don't need water wetter. These cars manage coolant temperature very well.

I'm running it in my N54 with no issues. I put it in for when I go to the track, these n54's like to run really hot at the track so any little bit helps.

Yep, saw lots of threads with N54 owners using Waterwetter without issue but the magnesium in the N52/N51 was concerning to me whereas the N54 I believe is an aluminum block.

Thanks for the real-life experience Phyrexia! I agree with you and hassmachine. To me it's just one of those things where if there's no harm and could potentially lower coolant temps a tiny bit, then I don't mind spending a couple bucks? Or we can go with the safer and smarter route of "it ain't broke, don't fix it" mindset

It won't lower coolant temps at all - the DME targets whatever coolant temps are required for the operating mode (WOT, part load, cruising). It might make the cooling system a tiny bit more efficient but it will still run at ~110c when it's programmed to. It'll just close the thermostat more until it reaches that threshold.

But yeah, for your original question, it's not going to hurt anything.

Retrofit the oil-air or oil-coolant cooler if you're really worried about temps.
