Man that's too funny!

Always agree with your wife....you know why.

I watched this on YouTube today (link to Chris Harris Review of Morgan Three Wheeler and Caterham Seven) and it's caused me to spend the afternoon reading up on Caterham's. I was just looking at this on another tab...

Went for a ride with someone in a caterham r500. Epic. Small power slides down a well worn country road not much wider than the car with mm precision. Acceleration was neck straining even with quite a large angle on the corner. He was a suspension engineer or something I think so I trusted he knew what he was doing.

Hi Sneeky - Hoping to test the Meth sys this weekend, but the issue may be a bad piston connecting rod or rod bearing. Poss tensile load failure due to high rpm + defect + torque under accel. Was there a failure analysis?

Looking now for N54 piston rod design specs - anyone got??

Food for thought....pages 5 & 6 especially good reading.

M3 uses forged from billet rods, yes? 4340 steel?

Here's some bedtime reading....check the bottom line on tensile strength sintered vs billet forged conrods page 252+ [page 231+ in text].

I know, 9 years back.

Anyone have a line on what material BMW uses, sintered & billet forged conrods?

Eerily familiar, this poor guy was just movin' along in traffic.

Sneeky, the more I hear, the more it sounds like there are issues with sintered rods [random defects]. Gotta wonder where BMW is on this - they must know.

Lesson learned from this failure. Never opt for methanol injection.

We all know engine failure is the worst case scenario the day we put an aftermarket tune in our cars as there's a reason it voids warranties - it's just that none of us think it's ever going to happen to our car. I know I didn't. I rationalized that if I kept my max boost lower than what everyone else runs on the forums and took care of my engine with proper maintenance and the best fluids money can buy, everything would be good. Life just gives you lemons sometimes.

I appreciate all the kind words and condolences from everyone though, as this is pretty depressing - especially since I really love this car.
I know firsthand the exact feeling of having a blown engine so I sympathize with you and I hope that you get back in the groove soon.

Please keep us posted.
