Need help coding combox replacement (same part)

I have a 2013 E93 with 6NR from the factory (and a newer combox because of BMW Assist G3 upgrade).
I need to replace my combox due to USB problems (long story, see other thread in Radio forum if you care).
I got a used combox that is the exact same part I had from BMW.
It works, but BT does not work (just a spinning wheel), and neither does USB (but it does charge the phone now which my broken one stopped doing). I assume I need to code the new one the same as the old one?
The old combox somewhat works, so I assume I can get the coding out of it somehow, and then write it to the new one? I have the cable, and (I think) the software.

P.S. the donor combox came out of a 2014 E71 (X6) if that matters.

First attempt would be to default code it to the Factory VO with
NCSexpert though you may need an Icom cable to do this.

Factory Coding for the modules that came with the car is stored in
two places for redundancy. (Cas and Frm module)

When you change the VO you are changing these two lists.

If you downloaded the Bimmergeeks.net software it comes with to Profile's
Factory and Manipulation.
Factory is the one that return's modules to the original setting from the factory
based on the fact that the values in the VO haven't been changed.
Manipulation is what you use when you want to modify settings.
In that case you read the module you are interested in changing and it
makes a trace file. You open that file make your changes and save it
as a .man file . Then you use that file to directly program the module.

Before you do any of this stuff make sure Inpa is up and running as a check
of your setup.

You may also have to change the Vin number stored in the Module using
Tool32.

Default code CIC and Media/Combox in ncs expert and it'll start working normally.

This is probably a dumb question (but I am coding newbie), but how would you default code something a module?

I did manage to grab the settings of the "new" combox and think the language it german. Also, it seems like a lot of things are disabled, which may be the problem here. Can I pull the TRC (for media) off my old combox and lay down those same settings on the new one?

In ncs expert choose default/factory coding profile

In process ecu choose Media

Default coding moved the ball forward. Bluetooth now works (messages do not though, but that may just be because the phone hasn't completed a sync yet?). And, USB streaming worked perfectly for a minute (and now does not). Apps did not work. I am going to let the car sit for a few hours and see if things get better.
But I can now see that the coding from the original combox and the donor are the same.
I'll look again in a few hours and see if anything magically gets better somehow.

Try default coding CIC now, see if that fixes your issues

That seems to have done it! A few other things. I had to turn OFFICE back on in the CIC to get the messages back (not sure how that got turned off). And I rebooted my phone and switched cables too. Last two could have just been a coincidence. I am not sure.

I'll put things together and drive it around for a few days and see how it goes... For some reason (mostly because this has been maddening for about 3 weeks) I am not ultra-confident that this is all solved.
On the good news front, I now understand the basics of coding, and even coded in the speed display in the KOMBI too just to make sure I could do all this. I guess its on to coding some better stuff from here!
