I'm liking the mono-tone dash so far, but maybe in the future

start of the door panels. The leather inserts are two-piece, the one that goes on the door, and the one that your arm rests on. The passenger side handle is held on by plastic rivets, and so is the LED mood-light strip, but nothing that painters tape couldn't mask off.

Now the waiting game to let them dry, install, then cure. Yes, the overspray on one of the panels will be rubbed off.

its an idea, it would look really nice. the E46 came dyed 2 tone without it being wrapped in leather. by the way how is the dye holding up? does it feel the same as OEM? any weird scent? what did you use to spray the dye? info needed thanks

almost done! Just need to install the passenger side head rest and the drivers seat. It needs approx a week to cure so the white stuff you see inbetween the seams are parchment paper to prevent surfaces from touching, then I have to sand the surfaces to reduce some of the shine

Now that i'm done, I may redo it another color

This came out perfect. so what causes the shine you were talking about? too much over spray? that 3000 grit sandpaper wont ruin the dye? the OEM flat look is great. i cant wait to get started on my coral red. the saddle brown i have should be a nice base coat to get me started instead of going right from black.

it's caused by too heavy of a mist from the GRACO 3900 HVLP system because of a wrong setting, After brushing 2 coats on, apply about 3-4 very light coats with the GRACO gun; 1-2 coats applied with slow arm movements, and the rest with quick hand movements.

Even then, it'll still have a little bit of a shine due to the character of the leatherique dye; leatherworldtech.com has a "matte" dye option if you want to check them out that I've used with good success in the past.

3000 grit must be wet and rubbed around with almost no pressure. 3000grit is very smooth to the touch, but abrasive enough to dull the finish, you could possible try 3M magic eraser...just remember, keep the surfaces wet, and apply very very very light pressure.

thanks for the info. i may go with the matte dye option, but im an artist i dont think i should have an issue dying my seats properly and im very anal about my work so that helps.

i did 2 more layers on the seats (hence why it's slightly shinier than the other pics). I need to wait for it to cure fully before sanding.

Sorry for the slightly blurry/blotchy cellphone camara pics. Samsung Gallaxy S3 is supposed to have a great camera, I haven't seen any good photo's from it yet

I have 6 or 7 layers, I forget, nothing looks caked on. I would imagine with all out brush work would looked caked on by now though.

i guess dye is different than regular paint where you can put coat on top of coat and the layers are so thin that it wont look caked on you went from black so i can see why you went 6 or 7 coats. id probably need 4 max due to my seats and door inserts being saddle brown

I have the same phone. Very high megapixels = huge photos. Quality is not there at all! I rather have photos 1/4 the size but have them clear!
