Is there anyway to add Waze to my '12 e92 iDrive?

You could rest your phone horizontally up against the I-Drive screen and open up the waze app

Check out this thread, it has a lot of information on what you are looking for. If you want a good mirroring solution, it's probably going to cost you around $500.

Waze sucks anyway.

Waze gives real time data based on the Input of people on
the road . That's its best feature and it seems to exceed all
others in that catagory as far as I can tell.
I can see that in area's of low traffic its not as valuable.
(no people inputting data)
It sends you on some convoluted routes if you let it navigate
for you. You can outdo it if your in your local area and no where
you are going which is pretty true of any Nav.

As far as situational awareness I don't see anything better and
it is always updated unlike most fixed hardware based installs.

I have a retrofit Evo, it has Carplay, but not Android Auto, which is unfortunate, because Android Auto is 10x better, in my opinion. The current Carplay does not allow Waze, but apparently IOS12 is going to allow 3rd party navigation apps into Carplay, so it might be possible then. But I'm curious if Apple is going to limit it to the point of being useless, like they did with Spotify (Spotify on Carplay does not even allow for search, which makes useless). My guess is that Waze on Carplay will be seriously cripple by Apple.

The video that shows the 2 guys comparing Carplay, and Android Auto, is not in a BMW. The below in the last paragraph in the article. The link at "Smartphone mirroring" sends the user to a page for BimmerTechs $600 Smartview product, that is capable of mirroring both IOS, and Android onto the iDrive screen.

Even with mirroring, it's not as good as integrated Carplay or Android Auto, because it's simply displaying what is on the screen. All control is still done through the phone. Also, iDrive 5 and later are capable of mirroring Android to the screen. I tried it, but didn't like it. The main thing I didn't like was that the screen on the phone had to stay on, if the screen locked, then the mirroring would go black also. I din't like the idea of having my screen on for long periods of time.

For Android users underwhelmed by what iDrive has to offer, or iOS users looking to enjoy a wider range of apps, a custom solution could be the best option. Smartphone mirroring or casting lets you use all your mobile apps without sacrificing the functionality of the iDrive system. As Android Auto is available as a standalone smartphone app and can be largely controlled with voice commands, this is even an effective way to add Android Auto to BMWs lacking a touchscreen display.
