Hey Folks,

I got one of those power adaptors that is supposed to plug in to where the accessory flashlight would go in the glovebox and give you an auxillary power connection (for cell phone charger, radar detector, whatever).

The only problem is.... there is no place to plug it into in my glove box. WTF? (I knew I didn't have a flashlight, but I had just assumed previously without checking that I at least had a socket).

Is this a feature that was deleted for '09? (Just Canada, or everywhere?) My buddy has the socket in his '06 330i.

If it was cost-cutting I could see them not providing a flashlight, but why the hell would they not at least leave the connector?

Do you possibly have a picture? (or a more specific description)

I just went and checked, and I can't find anything under the passenger side of the dash resembling any kind of a power socket.

only 2006 and 2007 production e90/e92's have this feature. the entire function has been removed since and you are given an led flashlight instead now.

they dont leave the socket in cause its only for the flashlight. if they arent giving you a flashlight, whats the point in the socket? kinda like if they gave you a NAV DVD but no idrive.

I have no flashlight and no socket in MY08
was told it was discontinued after MY07 and I can purchase a BMW brand LED flashlight that uses AA battery for $56

I only have one socket in my car and its under the arm rest. I was hoping there would be more.

I have a LED flashlight that I bought before, its the Maglite 2D and 3D but I leave the 2D in the car. If I go on a roadtrip I bring both.

my 06 330 had the flashlight but 08 335 doesn't. instead they gave me a LED flashlight

I have the 09 335 sedan as well and the outlet is there but too big to be a socket and no flashlight in it.

Left side under passenger dashboard.

That is not a socket, but just a std auxilary outlet just like the one in the glovebox.

You mean 2011s lose the socket in the ashtray (in front of the shifter on the center console) as well? Ouch.

Yup there is no ashtray its just a tray. Its bothering me cause you can't put anything under the armrest, most of the devices you plug in are big such as phone or GPS chargers, so you can't closed the armrest, the clearance isn't much.

Thanks for posting. Well, my car has that round hole under the dash (like in the pic). However there's nothing connected to it. No metal components suggesting its a power socket, just empty space.

I wonder if its possible to source the parts to wire up a socket to that hole. Hmmm...

I believe someone did retrofit the ashtray with the cig lighter back into the car, although splicing wires...etc may not be a good idea if you are leasing.

I already have the ashtray with cig lighter, thankfully (its where I currently plug my radar detector into). I was hoping for a 3rd aux power socket, since I consider the one in the rear of the center cubby to be in a somewhat useless place.

Two sockets are very handy. I use one in the armrest for my satellite receiver and the one in the ashtray for my GPS display (when I use it). I have an '09 328i. The is a posting in the DIY section about installing a European panel on the back of the console that has 2 auxiliary plugs. Apparently the wiring is there and it can easily be connected to the panel.

So 2 weeks ago we rented a car for camping and we get a Hyundai Accent the car had 2 power socket in front! This past weekend we rented another car for camping again and we got a Nissan Altima and the car had 2 power sockets as well, one under the armrest and another one in front where you can hide your CDs or something.

So today I just had to check my '11 e92 again and guess what I found under/behind the glove box outside.

In 2006, the 330xi came with a flashlight that contained a rechargeable nickle-cadmium battery, that was stored connected to two pin-plug terminals located in the left side of the glove box; it is likely your adapter would fit there. The 2006 flashlight had an incandescent bulb. Late on, the LED bulbs have become available, and since they were more efficient, most companies put them into non-rechargeable flashlights. BMW stopped supplying the LED flashlight "free" of charge with the car, and made it available as an option available from a dealer (there are two BMW LED flashlights available, a small that fits into the holder in the glove box, and a large one that does not fit). The glove box source terminals were deleted, but a cigarette lighter terminal was still supplied on the 2009 335i. AFSIK, on the 2010 335i the cigarette lighter setup was deleted and another lighter-style terminal provided, located underneath the glove box.
