Is the black trim on E90 gloss or matte or satin?
hi all
My E90 LCI came with chrome window trim. I'd like to plastidip that trim to look like the black version that is on the M Sport models. From the web, reading and looking at many pics, I can't tell whether it should be gloss or matte? Or just satin (mid-way)? Can someone let me know, preferably with a closeup pic of an oem black trim? I plan to use black plastidip (3 coats), and then a top coat of either glossifier or satinizer (depending on how the oem looks) cheers |

It's gloss black, you should just paint it and be done

And do some practice runs on something else, make sure it's a warm day so it dries and not cold. |

thanks guys! Gloss it shall be.
I taped up one side with black insulation tape to see how it looked today. Makes quite a difference, and contrasts well with the Bluewater metallic. Now I'll have to wait for the warmer weather, which in Canberra is many a month away... Last edited by satz; 06-25-2017 at 05:37 AM.. |

Thanks guys. I'm actually thinking a satin, or even matte, might suit my car better than gloss. Between the matte of the window rubber, and the gloss of the paint... (or maybe it's the finish of the black insulation tape I'm trialling!)
cheers |

I recently had the chrome trim on my E90 vinyl wrapped with gloss black vinyl. I considered plasti dipping or respraying it but after considering advice from my guy at Imperial Body Works, he recommended getting it vinyl wrapped.
Plasti dip is easily damaged and would begin to peel over time. Respraying it would take too much work sanding it down, getting the chrome prepared for respraying and even then the paint may not even take to the chrome so the best alternative was to vinyl wrap it. Took it to Ultimate Car Wraps and here's the result! |

Got quotes from a couple of vinyl wrappers in Sydney and canberra. Want around $550 to do the window trims.
I think at that price I'll try the DIY plastidip option...or just use black electrical tape. Being the classy guy that I am |

"Five fiddy"? What a rip. I got mine done for only $350. Black electrical tape might last longer tbh although it might not look as good as vinyl wrap would lol
