Hmmm, I never thought of that

Joking aside, I purchased my car from a non BMW dealer who (said they) picked it up from BMW financial. Im pretty sure the person who owned it before me got into some financial issues and turned it back in to the finance company. What I dont understand is why he didnt strip so of the stuff on the car and resell it.

So, the short answer is I dont know the previous owner...actually thats not true though, I did find his name (and ironically his home address was still programmed in the GPS) from the dealer while I looked at the warranty. However, Im a little hesitant in contacting him for fear that he is a little bitter about having to let go of the car being that its basically brand new (2008 model).

I'm sure you could find someone close to you who would be willing to swap + cash.

Forget it!! Spearco came with larger piping, so it's not a direct replacement like the RPi IC. Look at the outlet piping on the IC, and you will be able to tell the angles of the OEM IC won't match up any longer.

Spearco.

I have a new factory cooler and rubber lines I used for prototyping purposes on the Helix FMIC I'll sell it to you for $200 plus shipping

Don't bother. If your dealer is that anal and thinks an IC will cause problems, find a different dealer. In the Bay area I'm sure there are a bunch of dealers.

Doubt an aftermarket intercooler will matter AT ALL for servicing.
What are they going to say, "because of your aftermarket intercooler, keeping air temps down and therefore keeping your engine running a bit cooler, we are going to have to void your warranty."

If the car came from BMW financial like that when you bought it, it's CLEARLY ok with BMW to have it.
You BOUGHT it that way from them, how can they say YOU did it to the car so you have to suffer a voided warranty anyway??

Good point, and thats what I believe to but I have a feeling that they are looking for any and all reasons to get out of paying for things.

they don't care if it's intercooler or intake filter, if you were to do some damage on their financial dept, they will look for all reason to prevent this and leave the bill to the owner...

Seems to me since you purchased the car from BMW Financial and they represented it came with an intact warranty that BMW should then be estopped from later claiming that the modifications void the warranty. The issue that may then arise could be proving that you purchased the car from BMW Financial with said modifications. You may be right to play is safe and reinstall the original intercooler. I certainly would not rely on the argument that a larger intercooler benefits the engine to protect the warranty, since voiding warranties is not always based on rational arguments. Brian.

Ok guys, I appreciate all the PM offers to "trade" your OEM for my Spearco. I must not have made myself clear on this so Id like to clear it up.

A. Im VERY happy with the Spearco and do NOT want to sell/trade or otherwise dispose of it

B. I was only looking for an OEM Intercooler to use to put on for the day that the car goes to the shop for service

With that said, I have decided that its kinda a waste of time to take it off, put the OEM on then do it again after the car gets a service. If I have a service issue that would involve a warranty part, then thats another store. At which time I MAY opt for an OEM to do the switch...but even then its up in the air.

So, no need to PM me any more offering to swap IC's

If BMW can argue how upgrading an intercooler will destroy parts, then they are rediculous. All you are doing is lowering your IATs and reducing pressure loss across the system. I wouldn't put it past BMW, but it would be like voiding a warranty because of an upgraded radiator.

Could have been a repo? If thats the case, you get no chance to do such a thing.

If it was a repo, they just take the car with everything on it. You are not even allowed to touch it after a repo. Bad shiat man.

In cases where a dealer does not want a BMW financial car it gets sold at auction and is probably how it ended up at a non-BMW dealer. Either BMW financial wanted too much for the car or it couldn't be CPO'd so BMW dealerships passed on it.

Just post a WTB thread in the sale section - there's no need to get interogated by these chumps.
