Cross roads: JB4 or MHD
I know this topic has been talked about many times over. I am at a cross road, I need advise on what route I should take. I have been on JB4/BEF since I had bought the car 2013. Since last year, I h've been on PS2, JB4/BEF custom tuned by Trebila. Car has been running strong, really no issues.
This morning, with the help from Ando@BMS, we determined that the JB4 board is gone bad and needs to be replaced. A replacement board is $175. I also have the MHD Flasher License with no maps since I used it for custom BEF. At this point, should I replace the board or go flash only and get another custom tune from Wedge? If I was to go this route, do I need to buy a OTS map first? My car is not starting and I'm open to spending the money to make sure that my DME isn't having issue (more of a piece of mind thing). So total cost looks like $350 + $70 OTS? I feel that if I go flash only, I'll be spending double the cost of replacement. Does the benefit out-weight the cost? I figure if I was to make a change, now would be the time. What do you guys think? |

I'd just get a new board and keep running the way you've had it.
Like you said, you're going to spend far more to go flash only. And you've already got a custom tune.

They offer a 5 year warranty on the JB4 system. You've had it more than 5 years? Usually they have you send the JB4 board in for testing to determine if it's actually faulty or can be easily fixed. Buying a new one is usual for people who want to do upgrades from older hardware or older systems out of warranty.

This. Isn't BEF flash the best of both worlds anyways? You get the failsafe features of the JB4 and the full tables of the MHD for a custom map I'm which you have.
