*** Starter Motor Advice ***

hey guys so im about to replace my starter motor on my e92 335i n54. Now I came across this starter on ebay thats new and has 5 year warranty. I have a working second hand genuine one waiting for me at the wreckers for $150 with 3 months warranty. But this one on ebay is only $100 more and has 5 year warranty. Just seeing if anyone has ever bought one of these at all? and which route should i go????

How old is the 2nd hand one? I'd probably just go the genuine one from the wreckers, its not like starter failure is that common anyway.

To put it in comparison for you, a brand new one is $790, Best I could do is around $620,
something else to think about to, ETK says the bolts are a one use item,$25 for the set.

Oh how I wish this was true..id be able to pass on a much better mark up...youd be surprised how little markup we get to put on BMW parts. Sometimes we are lucky to get 15% to play with.

Yep. It's BMW Australia that are the thieves.

3 times the price does not equal to 300% mark up. That's simpleton maths

Although I am not challenging you, I highly doubt a BMW dealer would mark up the price astronomically. We get audited quite often on our pricing, as a general most BMW dealers should be around the same price. I've worked for 2 BMW dealers and can assure you both dealers pricing is almost identical.

Just because you found it online doesn't mean its the same part, may be a repackaged item directly from Bosch or another manufacturer. May be a Imported part from America/china in a BMW box sure, but they wont offer the same warranty that BMW offers. All these little things are why sometimes the genuine part from BMW Australia dealer can cost more.

End of the day sometimes I can agree with you guys that some of our parts can be unfairly priced, but majority of the time BMW is not far off the mark from the competitors.

Could this also be due to that we charge a higher import goods services tax ?
