If the donor car had lower miles then all you need to do is program the new VIN.
If the donor car had higher mileage, you have to replace the EEPROM chip on the cluster and program the VIN. Otherwise, the current car will take on the higher mileage and it will take an extremely amount of work to fix it. |

As gmros says R270 BDM will do it. Just read the eeprom and FF VIN and correct odometer references then you have like an uncoded KOMBI which can then be programmed by winkfp with correct VIN.
It's pretty simple. Some tools can do it by ODB but they are very expensive.. |

The KOMBI will work but without correcting vin you'll get a tamper dot. You won't be able to change the vin with winkfp unless it's back in a Virgin state by modifying the EEPROM.
The EEPROM is an area of non volatile memory in the flash chip. Without very expensive equipment you need to read the EEPROM, modify it then write it back, then flash with winkfp or set vin with tool32... |

Resurrecting an old thread...
I have about 20 instrument clusters from salvage vehicles I would like to "virginize" and make available for sale (legally and with ownership proof, obviously). The R270 is the best option for this? I do not need the tool to do any other function. |
