Yes. And I think it's date specific, not like the tax disc good through the end of the month.

I just realized that my MOT will be due just a month before I ship my car to the States. I'm not too concerned about it, though. Trouble is, I'll have to have the same type of inspection upon registering the car in the state to where I'll be moving.

Is it worth getting it Mot'd at the dealer or would I be better off taking it elsewhere?

I would say dealer and ask them to check the car over whilst it's still under warrenty. If there are any jobs to do it will be at BMWs expense rather than yours if you don't extend the warrenty.

This is worth remembering, especially if you want to get it tested while it's still under warranty: An MOT test can be taken up to a month before the due date and if the old certificate, or registration document in the case of the first MOT, is presented at the test, the certificate will be issued from the due date rather than the earlier test date.

I'd definitely get it MOT'd at the dealers before the warrranty runs out. That way you should be inline for a guaranteed pass with any problems nicely sorted out at no cost to you under the warranty.

Have they given you a quote for extending the warranty? I think Viv has used warranty direct who are a lot cheaper, but I'm curious as to how much BMW will charge. I've heard that it's around £1K a year

Definately get it done early at the dealer so that any problems can be sorted. On my E46 it was only when doing the 1st MOT that the broken rear springs were picked up (despite having been in for an Inspection I and rear tyre change)

As far as the extended warranty goes, Warranty Direct were hundreds cheaper than BMW. However, BMW has changed it's provider of extended warranties recently (according to one of the BMW mags) as customers have been voting with their wallets, so it should be worth seeing what the new pricing and cover is like.

I paid a little over £300 with Warranty Direct, last September, for my 330i.

BMW would have charged £750, albeit with the Emergency Service, which costs £150 on its own.

Funnily, I was ready to pay £150 for the 3rd year Emergency Service (I thought I only got 2 years, because of it being imported), but they told me that it actually has 3 years included, as it's from Europe, even though it only has 2 years warranty.

This is taken from a post on mtorque.co.uk which I can't link too as u need to login, relates to new warranty options on the E46 M3 but gives you an idea on the new options.

BTW I didn't bother with extending warranty on my E60 530D then 2 months before I traded it on it's 4th birthday it broke down on the road, new starter, new cables from boot to front of car, cost £2000. Then my M3 is delayed so put it in for MOT and they call asking for £2500, there were tyres etc needed but still £1500 would have been covered under warranty. Learnt my lesson and wouldn't run a modern BMW without warranty.
