Pls help , On n54 motors the rear turbo coolant return line is leaking bad , does the turbo have to be removed ? Or just subframe/downpipes?

Which line are you talking about specifically, the very rear one, #4? If so Idk about that one, probably not possible but I haven't tried.

But if you are talking about the supply lines, #1 and 3, then yes those 2 can definitely be changed without turbo removal as I have done it a few months back.



EDIT; NVM just saw the last sentence that says #4 that I missed the 1st time. I'm not sure if that one can be done without turbo removal or not, the hard part would definitely be where it inserts into the block, if I remember correctly it's a very tight fit there.

Yes it's the very rear one, so there's no way you think I can remove that line without removing the turbos?

Also would it be possible to just remove the rear turbo instead of removing the front one?

I'm not sure if it can or not, I know it is really tight back there at the back of the engine and the lines are usually very hard to get out of the block. It might be possible but I didn't try or look at that one very hard to figure out if you could work it out of the area.

Possibly, not entirely sure as I've only removed both at once.

I had the same issue. It took forever to find where the leak was coming from as it was dripping down on the exhaust but you could never see where it was coming from. I had to use dye in the coolant.

You can use a mirror and see the connection on the back of the block. It really is a pain. You have to move as much out of the way as possible but I think I did it without removing the turbo.

2 things:
- You need to make sure which rear line you have as there is two versions if you need to replace.
- Figure out where it is leaking as both ends have a simple O-ring to replace. No need to repalce the whole line if it's leaking at the ends. If you have to put in the new line, it comes with two o-rings but remember to replace the o-ring from the other coolant line you also have to remove in the middle of the turbo to get the top one off.

I just bought a fuel hose , I think it was a 3/8 or 5/16 , i used a dremel to cut the oem hose out , then I pulled out the hose , replaced it with fuel injection clamps and just a normal fuel hose. It works well with heat.

You will need to remove the downpipes, and be careful not to cut the plastic inlet, a 90 degree attachment on the dremel would of made it a lot easier

Unless that fuel hose is 100% silicone, I doubt it will stand up to the heat exhibited by the turbos. They will reach 400 degrees easily & that's not on a hot day

I have a brand new rear coolant line I can't use. Turned out to be two different versions. If you can confirm exactly which one you have, and it is the same one I have, I'll send it to you if you get me a shipping label.

I'll never use it.

There is 11537558903 and that is the one that fits my turbo setup.
Then there is 11537558902 and that is what I have a spare for.

Sorry to necro this old post, but I'm thinking I'm having the same leak, car won't hold coolant at all and if I can avoid buying the complete lines and just throw some silicone tubing on there, that would be awesome. Did you have to drop the subframe to put on the fuel hose?

I am pretty sure that I have the same leak also :/... Did you get it all fixed? If you have x drive im pretty sure that you're gonna have to drop the subframe to access the lines.
