TPMS says tires are low, what gives?
Hi everyone, please don't flame me telling me to search the forum because i've searched for the past 20 minutes with no luck. I got two new tires yesterday because rear tires were completely bald. When I got the car back, everything was fine and the tpms light was off. After the car sat for a few hours in my friends driveway, i get in and turn on the car and the TPMS light turns on. I check the psi in all four of the tires and it is high enough that the light should not turn on. I try to reset the tpms through the stalking feature and it keeps telling me that my tire is low! when in reality all of my tires psi is fine. What gives? How can I reset the tpms? Do i have to make a dreaded trip to the stealership? Could town fair tire have ruined the tpms? What do you guys suggest?

IDK man couldn't tell you...I had the same problem with my PS2s on 189s. I just put my autox setup on and the light went away.

has the weather just changed by ~40F? overnight perhaps?
its a known issue with the tpms sensors that when you experience a large change in temp, you should just check the pressure, and reset your tpms until the temps stabilize a bit, those huge swings send the tpms into panic but theyre working just fine

I get it seasonally. I'm pretty sure its also to do with what version of the ecu software you have. I read that there was a tsb on this where they just upgraded your software...

The general rule for PSI changing with temperature is 1 psi per 10 degrees, right? So you'd see a 4 psi change max, and I think the sensors go off when it's +/- 8psi... if I remember correctly. I remember back when we had those -10 or -20 degree days mine would go off

A lot of people enter the 'reset tpms' menu item, but don't actually reset it. You have to hold the button for 5(or 10) seconds, as your manual states... It took me a non-resetting system to whip out the ol' manual, but then it worked.

Damaged?
It's possible that one of the sensors was damaged when the tires were replaced. It's too bad that BMW hasn't installed a TPM system that tells you WHICH tire is low. The General manages to install that kind of system on some of his cars
