having the same issue on 335xi 2011; I got the car in june with a faulty DVD player and since they replaced it the screen goes red and everything connected with MOST doesn't function for a few min..
I have noticed that this sht only happens when someone is sitting in the passenger side...

Dealer made an isis scan and advised that there's a faulty harness behind the screen ....

just got the report from dealership...

"cause:LVDS line faulty
checked for faults. found A468 and A46D, followed test plan.
instructed to check most ring and LVDS line. Performed luminous reduction test. Passed ok. R&I wood trim, center, vent, Ihka, Trim, CIC and CID to check LVDS line. found open circuit when moving cable. ordered part..."

The ordered part# 61 11 9 185 171 ~43US in NA ~19EU in Germany

Unless you can fix it yourself and for free -you cannot- then you must go to the dealer for warranty repair.

Count another one to this issue. I have a service appointment on the 5th for an oil change and installation of the PPK and I guess this is on there too now. I hope they can get it fixed. :-/

My DVD drive went last month and the dealership is replacing it under warranty. Since the drive going, I get the red / BMW splash screen now, only after driving the car for a while. Doesn't really happy during a cold start. Increased frequency in the past week.

Mind you, the car was involved in a nasty accident ($35k repair) so there might be a bunch of loose connectors and harness lurking around.

Will update with my service on June 14 - yes, earliest appointment with loaner.

Service should take a day - with ECU reprogramming - they better not erase my PPK 1

Dealer contacted me yesterday and says that the cable between the CIC and CID is suspect. They have ordered a replacement. I will keep you folks posted on results.

hello people im new to this reason being is because i have a 2006 bmw 325i and the screen all of a sudden turned off when i do start the car it says bmw then goes black after 15 20 seconds can anyone help? the damn dealer charges alot

I got my car back and it is working fine. The screen did come back after I let the car go to "sleep" before I went to the dealer so who knows. They did some diagnostics and it hd a recorded fault that was no longer active. They ended up replacing the cable between the CIC and CID for good measure though. Fingers crossed it has resolved the problem.

p.s. I referred my SA to this thread which he said was very helpful. Food for thought when you have an issue. Search the forums and see if it has happened before. If it has refer them to the threads. It may help them diagnose it.

I have a 2012 335is and twice in the past year I got the red screen upon starting the car. In both cases the car was outside, and it had rained. More detail is in the post at:

I had a Multimedia kit installed in my iDrive so I could add a rear-view and front-view camera, an iPod/Video input, and an extra output.

After about 1.5 years, I've had the red screen issue almost every few weeks because of a loose wire in my multimedia kit. Sucks because I have to remove glove box to reach and plug the stupid wire back in.

So, for those of you with the red screen, the above post regarding a faulty line may be the culprit. It is something in the video line going behind the screen. Perhaps an easy fix for those who don't/can't take their car to the dealership.

im having an issue but I am not seeing a red screen. basically the navigation and internal music are grayed out. The screen goes black and the music is still playing from my ipod and then the idrive reboots. This just started happening this week. Happens about 2-3 times. If the navigation loads, this doesnt happen.

Is this an issue with the hard drive?

The red screen just literally happened to me. I have a 2009 E93 with CIC system. Red screen happened once before 2 years ago and I let it sleep. Came back on and never happened again till now.

Decided to check here for a solution and tried holding down the volume button. Did the trick first time. Note my engine was off but accessories was on.

Same thing happened to me i just went to autozone and came back it looks normal now
