Can I run 17t's and 2" inlets with stock tune?
I bought a 335i yesterday with bad turbos. Makes no sense to me to spend more for oem's when I can get 17t's with 2" inlets for less.
Anyway, I want my daughter to drive the car a few months while I restore it, and she doesn't need big power. Once restored I'll sell it and get her something else. So back to the question, will it drive okay on the stock tune with the upgraded turbos and inlets?

It'll be fine if you baby it around, you might run into over boost issues if you go WOT. On a side note I have a open source unlocked MHD file for upgraded turbo's if you want it, tho you also need the N20 TMAP sensor to run it. It's from RFP which used to give out free maps. I ran it with my 17t's until I got my custom map from twisted tuning.

Yes...probably fine if she babies it. But getting on the throttle hard...I would be worried that you might have problems with it leaning out the fuel too much with an MHD OTS Tune and those larger turbos.
I've seen LOTS of people who cheap out and but those ebay VIV 17t and 19t turbos...and then don't want to spend the money on a custom tune. Needless to say, all of those turbos start to fail very early on. Not sure if it's poor quality, the MHD tune, or a combination of both. FYI....you should be able to use HMD to set boost limits for each gear. Just limit it to 8psi boost in all gears, and she won't be able to hurt anything.

For the record, the car ran perfect with the 17t turbos and 2" inlets on stock tune no issue and without any CEL's.

to anyone out there running 17ts, you can run mhd perfectly fine. Swap Depot (youtuber) has been running stage 1+ on his 17ts for over 6+ months.

You might be fine on the 1+ tune....but I've heard of lots of people having over boost issues on the MHD stage 2+ tunes. The MHD tunes were all designed around stock turbos.....so it makes sense that with the much larger 17t's.....you are probably going to have some issues. At the very least, make sure you run some logs and make sure AFR's are too lean, and make sure you aren't way overshooting boost targets.

Assuming you are fine, Will be underperforming significantly with OTS tunes, at which point, you have to wonder why you went with 17t's
