The new 6079 version is supposed to be incompatible with older versions, meaning you have to change all 6 !$!$!$!$
I had these in my hands last night and are now installed in my car. All injectors including the 079s have the same part number just a different revision number (-05,-09,-11 etc). So they say these are not compatible with the older injector but it has been done and after seeing the coding process work firsthand I believe you can mix them because the Ecu is programmed with the flow rate of each individual injector.

No! You have it wrong.

The 079 is the part number for the injector "kit" which includes injector, pre-installed PTFE seal, an injector end cap and all this nicely wrapped in a white plastic tube. The 079 is the label on the tube itself.

The individual injectors end on 261. After that there is a dash "-" which indicates the integration level.

Examples:

261-4 : integration level 4
261-8 : integration level 8
261-10 : integration level 10
261-11 : integration level 11
261-12 : integration level 12

In addition, there are two "generations" of injectors. Gen 1 also known as "old style" are up to integration level 10. The Gen 2 injectors, also known as "new style" are integration levels 11 and 12.

According to BMW, you cannot mix gen 1 and gen 2 injectors in the same cylinder bank. However, I was one of the first to try and disprove this. Others have mixed injectors in the same bank without issues.

So, when you are buying injectors online or at the parts counter, open the white plastic tube they come packaged in. Unwrap the injector and look for 261-12 at the end of the part number. This is currently the latest.

Here is a picture of an injector with integration level 11:

Ah, thanks for the explanation. I am just trying to figure this out on my own, dealer wanted to replace all 6 injectors for $1900 when only one bank was bad.

Good to hear it is ok to mix revisions, I am going to order 3 of these this week.

$1900? Damn they are screwing people. It only takes maybe an hour to do all 6 if you've never done them before. Buy the inpa cable and software and check out the diy and youtube videos on coding. It super easy.

Dealers are a joke. I paid for a diagnostic which stated that one entire bank (3 injectors) was bad, still wanted to replace all 6. F- them.

Ordered 3 injectors from PartsGeek + seals/retaining rings from ECS. Bought a cable off of Ebay that I hope works. So far have spent $360 and will be next weekends project. $1900? Kiss my ass.

My laptop is Windows 8, will INPA run on this or do I need to set up a virtual machine?

im not 100% on what machine you need to run INPA as I had a friend do my coding. I will be buying the software soon myself.

Just try it. I wasted more time trying to search and figure out if it worked with my computer.
I have Windows 7 X64 bit and it worked for me. The setup doesn't take long.

With coding and install of 6 injector it shouldn't take more than 30-45 minutes. Crazy super easy job. The dealer is a damn joke trying to make $1800-2500 for Only $800-900 in parts. That's like $1000 an hour labor. Lol. Crooks!!!!

Glad that you finally got it fixed! I bet there are a bunch of cars out there with miscoded injectors.
Thanks for this post. I too was able to program my injectors with the ignition on and engine off. Trying to program with the engine running gave me an error. Finally the injector replacement fixed the #2 cylinder misfire on m '07 335i. Thanks again.

Well of course the engine must be off. I think this is sort of self-explanatory and logical. Sort of like, you don't swap a flat tire while still driving the car...

I am glad you were able to program your injectors.

Neraring Injector Replacement

OK - Things I do know:

* Must Replace all in a bank
* Coding requires ONE-STOP CABLE (others are available)
* Each injector requires a decoupler ring
* My BT Cable will not code injectors

Thing I dont know:

* Does each new injector already come with a new seal or do I have install
* Where to find drivers & all other software
* Step by step -- How to load software & requirements
* Is getbmwparts.com the best place to order
.
Looking to clear 29E1 code -- starting with (2) upstream O2 sensors then (6) injectors most likely at 115k miles.

ECS Tuning also has the injectors, shop around to find the best price. Not sure about the seals, this is one job I haven't had to do myself.

Email me for the software install. I wrote my own install so it's a 3 step process.

I also have DIY's for coding and a few other things I'll send you.

The one stop cable is truly one of the best INPA cables I have seen, but if I remember correctly the $99 included shipping from China and shipping for one cable was like $65. I always direct people to eBay. Do a search for K+DCAN, filter that by US only, free shipping, and then sort by lowest price. Pick a top rated vendor. Nice part of shopping eBay, if the cable doesn't work you get your money back and they will pay for shipping of defective product back to the vendor. You're not out anything.

So, just send me an email and we'll get you all hooked up.

Thanks for the HELP

Very much appreciate the help. I did download the files from page 1 was just concerned over the 32bit vs 64 bit comments. If the 02 sensor replacement does not clear the issue - I will pursue the injector R&R. I did look at EBAY and there seems to be the $35 option that looks promising ~ thanks again.

I've seen people running INPA and the supporting software on 64-bit systems, but they run it in some compatibility mode. If you are not sure, just create yourself a virtual machine. Virtual Box or VMWare Player are both free.

42K miles...

Injector #3 stuck wide open while I was driving and I went thru about 4 gallons of gas in about 3 miles.

I took my car to a local European auto shop for an estimate...

They came back with a 6K estimate saying that I would need 6 new injectors, 6 coils, 6 spark plugs, 4 O2's, 1 low pressure fuel sensor and new primary and secondary cats and that I might need a new HPFP because it could have been damaged.

I found it hard to believe that the o2's and the cats could have been damaged from the 3 minutes of driving that took place after realizing that there was an issue.

I decided to do the work myself and had the car towed back to my house.

I found 6 NIB -12 series factory injectors on ebay for $455 (even though only 1 failed, I wanted to upgrade them all to the latest revision).

http://www.ebay.com/itm/321652578465...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

6 NIB Bosch coils on ebay for $170

http://www.ebay.com/itm/271697288113...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

1 new OEM low pressure fuel sensor on ebay for $108

http://www.ebay.com/itm/301487459627...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

1 K+DCAN cable on ebay for $25

http://www.ebay.com/itm/351080107250...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Intake & TB gaskets $28 & $11

http://www.ebay.com/itm/161361602728...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

http://www.ebay.com/itm/321652838804...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

1 spark plug socket $20

http://www.ebay.com/itm/321648455139...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

6 spark plugs from local BMW dealership $132

1 Bavarian Technic basic cable $179

http://bavariantechnic.com/buy.aspx

7 quarts of Pennzoil Ultra Euro 5W-30 and Bosch oil filter from Auto Zone for $75.

Total- $1203

I used a 64bit Dell Precision M6800 laptop running Windows 7 Professional

software & cable installed easily and worked flawlessly.

The entire job took about 4 hours and if I wouldn't have needed to swap out the LPFS it would have taken an hour max.

The car now runs better than ever and as I suspected the O'2s and cats were not damaged and did not need to be replaced.

Thanks for the easy to follow instructions for the injector coding.
