Tire pressure

I don’t have a tire pressure monitoring system installed in the tires of the car, however the car seems to know when one tire is low on air and signals the fault code for low air pressure. How does the car know this if I don’t have a tire pressure monitoring system?

Also the warning came on today and when I checked my air pressure, my tires were good. Has anybody had trouble with the low pressure warning going off when there’s no issue?

I’m at 35 psi for all tires. I believe spec is 34 in the front and 37 in the back, but I’m assuming that’s summer.

The car's TPMS does not have sensors in the tires. It uses the ABS/DSC's wheel rotation speeds to detect tire(s) with faster rotational speed (happens when PSI it's low). It is possible that you have one or more tires that are newer (more tire tread), or substantially more worn (less tread) than the others. The plate in the driver side door jam indicates the OEM tire size and PSI specs you should inflate the tires.

Thanks for the explanation of the tire pressure. I always wondered. The car is in the shop today so I will get a top up to spec. I just recently got my winters on and I know from before, one rim had a problem with air leakage from lack of glue during the tire mount process.
