Classic Genuine BBS BMW Style 5 16" 7J ET20 set of alloy wheels for our E90 ;)))

Main topic (01/05/2013)

Hello there

Some time ago we thought of changing the BMW 16" 7J ET34 Style 156 winter alloy wheels to something a lot more interesting. We have been looking at eBay and other auctions over the internet for a good set of 16" wheels which would be interesting. A few days ago I found the auction on eBay for the BBS wheels and put a bid straight away. The auction got very tense in the last few minutes at over £100. There are 1000s of 16" wheels for BMW on eBay but these particular ones were only the ones. Very rare and for sure top design in the Style 5 segment (split Style 5s are great but not in 16" configuration). We went today to pick these up. The trip from Manchester to York took 1.5h so not that bad at all, with a nice lunch There are five wheels as one of them is a spare wheel. These came off old 5 Series so are around 20 years old but have been kept in great condition with all of the caps in fantastic state. The BMW badges were not in a good shape so these have been taken off and will be replaced with matching badges. Ok, enough talking here are a few photos taken today...

So here is the wheel patter (love it !!!) :

A few photos when we brought these home :

After around 5 hours these look like this :

The centre cap badges were ordered today :
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-WHEEL-...90656334396%26

We will give it a few more clean ups and then give these to our friend who is a professional sprayer and teacher at The Manchester College He is the only person I can trust. We would like to spray this in the following colour :

Does anyone know what colour code are those wheels ? I think it is M-Sport Plus package.

So the previous wheels (without tyres) are for sale if anyone is interested. Genuine BMW Style 156 16" 7J ET34, PCD 5x120, bore 72.5. I will make a separate thread in the classified section in a few days. Here is how these look :

Here is the sale thread : http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=835284

Thanks for looking, hope you like it

Regards !

PS. Ill keep the thread updated. More pics tomorrow when we try to fit them on the car...

Update (03/05/2013)

The 5th spare wheels was fitted to the car. I was really worried it wouldnt fit having 300mm brake discs. Also having ET20 on the front was a little worry. Here are the pics :

The hub rings arrived yesturday to bring bore from 74.1mm to 72.5mm :

The matching badges have arrived today :

So the wheels fit yeah Ive booked a respray with my friend and the wheels will be resprayed tomorrow in "A80" colour code - FerricGrey. The tyres will be taken off old 16" 156 Style wheels and put on the BBS ones. The widths of the tyres are 195mm. Once these will be fitted Ill measure the distance between the wheel and rear arch and choose appropriate spacers to fill any gap.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Update (07/05/2013)

The wheels have been within hands of my friend sprayer for the last few days. The colour code is A80 - Ferric Grey as on the E90 Sport Plus wheels This colour will give the wheels very classy look. A few pics :

All of the brake calipers have been in the refreshing process. At first a lot of sanding down using sandpaper and sanding drill brits (takes hours). Once all the rust and dirst is cleaned the calipers are ready for 2 coats of red paint. Brush is used for painting A few pics :

In the meantime the milestone :

Once the wheels will be collected this Thursday Ill see my friend from estate to put the tyres on these And lastly final fitting and choosing right spacers

Enjoy your day, comments warmly welcome

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Update (16/05/2013)

The wheels were picked up a few days ago. These were with my friend sprayer for a few days. He has huge experience as he is a teacher at college in body shop and he has done hundreds of wheels. He admitted the wheels were the hardest to spray due to big amount of spokes, but he has done an exceptional job I need to say !!! Ok so here are a few pics, have a comment - I wanna see what you think

The best looking wheels Ive ever seen
Now my friend from my estate will fit the tyres and it will be done
I am just thinking, it will be a shame these will be used over winter times... Hope you like it

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Update (21/05/2013)

So the winter tyres in sizes 195/55/16 have been transferred onto the Style 5 wheels by my friend I highly recommend his tyre mobile service Great price, very quick and professional service. He works within Manchester area and close to Manchester areas too. A few pics below :

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Lovely style of wheel, however the offset ET20 is very aggressive for the E90,and could cause you problems.

The problem will be magnified, as you'll need an adaptor to make the centre bore size of 74.1 of the style '5' wheel to fit the hub of a E9x which accepts the centre bore size of a 72.5 wheel.

Good luck

Weve gone to BMW to sort some things out and asked about the colour code. It is "A80" and is called FerricGrey if anyone else is interested.

Thank you. Indeed the offset is very aggressive but hope it will look great. Right, the bore is around 2.5mm larger in the 5 Series so the hub rings will be needed Ive ordered some last week

Thats old skool porn mate but in 16" i would buy steel rims which look nuts imo. I use 17" winters and they work/look good for me.17/18 " winter and 19" summers best combo. Good luck .

those wheels will look great! but as mentioned will look small...to make them look bigger i think youd need a serious drop to help them do justice!...with a massive arch gap it wont look right dude...

are you on springs or coilovers?

Neither have I mate.
I was toying with the idea for going with an old skool rim. But was unsure how it would look on our modern cars.

I know this is not the same wheel at all and please ignore the ugly white as it does not work at all.

but it is as close as I can find.

It can work with a 19" rim just about, but considering our MASSIVE arches... I wish you all the jack with the 16s as your clearly want to make them work.

Even this 19" wheel with its lip looks more like an 18.
So your 16 could look like a 15 considering the spokes do not travel to the edge of the rim.

Thanks a lot For the summer I am running 19" wheels (was thinking of 20"s). Over the winter times 16" (the lowest size fitable on 320d due to 300mm brake discs). Why 16" you would ask ? Ohh well, the tyres are really cheap (running 195mm ones), no worries about kerbing, great comfort and other positive points No idea why you would run 18" over the winter ?

Cheers Yes these will look small and might not fit the E90 design, but lets see once these are on :P Ive been running full standard SE suspension and would like to buy Bilstein B12 with Pro Kit

Yes you are 100% right, the Style 5 looks small comparing to other wheels of the same sizes The wheels themselves are so bloody hot, just couldnt resist not to buy them Looking at the photo I would say, these look ok, nothing interesting considering the modern lines of the E90 I am curious how 16" will look hahaha... I will choose some spacers for these and we shall see...

Hear you soon, cheers =]
