I really want to buy some Recaro sportsters and dye them saddle brown every time I look at this thread.

Out of curiosity, could this method of painting by hand allow you to do something like two tone seats? For example, most of the seats white/beige with the side bolsters and headrests blue? I was doings a simulation on an upholstery specialist's web site and the two colored schemes looked awesome.

Definitely, that would be very easy to do.
Doing an M color scheme would be awesome.

I considered Recaros but the price was brutal and it's pretty complex with all airbags and electrics within the OEM seat

Passenger seat is in!
Airbag/seat belt warning lights remain on so I'll have to get that sorted at my next service.

This one is so going down as one of the all-time best threads. Courage for the last stretch, you got the crowd waiting in line and munching popcorn waiting for the finale

The home stretch.
Sunday afternoon, just finished work and now commencing the driver's seat.
I now have 8 days off work and until I will need to use my car again - 2 days to color it, and unfortunately only 6 days to cure (I would have preferred 20 days!). Anyhow I hope I get a few sunny days.

Also I'm pondering on whether I should recolor the gear shift and handbrake leathers. What do you guys think?

Looks like the previous owner enjoyed their chocolate biscuits.

Condition of the driver's seat is pretty good. I have 80,000km on the clock.
I've already oiled the seats over the past few weeks so the are quite supple now.

Alcantara

Maybe get custom red with double white stitching like the performance shift boots, or black with red stitching

Either do this or dye red with the rest of the car. The Alacantra is a rich looking finish and with the red stitching will tie in nice... great suggestion Black n54is

Looking forward to next week!

I say leave them stock, it's easy to get too carried away.

This is epic. I say dye the hand brake and gear leather.

And remove the caliper covers and just paint them....

Yep I was on the go red wagon until I looked this up, now I think keep black for the contrast.

Nice calipers btw, they set off nicely against the black.

Yeah Im on your boat now, I think red shift and brake boots would be a tad too much.

Cheers, I have Orange lettered number plates with a black background as well and orange air scoops.

All subtle but against black I really like it all.

Alcantara is not an option as there is no other alcantara in the car hence I believe it would look out of place.

I'm leaning toward the red shift/handbrake because it seems odd to have all other areas of leather in red and not have these 2 leather parts matching.
Whether it matches OEM or not doesn't really concern me and as I don't have the extended leather package, I don't think it will be excessive..

Rather than dye it I would buy the red leather from a seller on Ebay and I would have to use a different gear knob because the M-Sport one that I have comes as one piece (knob and gaiter).

A photoshop of how it would look :
