Changing dampers, what else?
One of my front damper has a small leak and I am thinking I might aswell change all four.
At the same time, what else would say is worth changing? Strut top mount? |

You may as well, I recently replaced my front top mounts.
Made a big difference, steering feels much smoother & it cured a creaking noise I was getting at low speed when parking |

Thanks mate. Which one's did you go for? I have had a quote for a set of Lemforder top mounts for £40.
Also is it worth changing the lower control arm and the upper one? M3 parts are a popular upgrade but i'd rather keep the car standard. Something like this, http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/for-BMW-3-...kAAOSw8-tWZY80 Last edited by E60525d; 12-17-2016 at 11:02 AM.. |

I'd do the shocks, springs and top mounts. Do the control arms if there is wear signs on the bushes.

I'm in the middle of changing all 4 shock absorbers on my e93. Top mounts definitely need changing if the cars done a few miles. On the rear there is a rubber mount at the bottom that the shock absorber goes through to mount to the car, they are both worn on my car.
And the other thing that needed changing on mine were the rubber boots/gaitors that cover the shock absorber to prevent dirt getting into the shaft |

In my experience I got a set for my E34 525 m sport (OEM Branded but from German and Swedish)....and they didn't fit. Only place I could source them from was the dealer at 300-400 pound each. More recently I had one let go on my 2008 E91 325 m sport and again only place you could get m sport dampers was the dealer. Everyone like euro car parts claimed to stock them for not much money, but they never fit m sport cars in my experience. Perhaps I've just been unlucky ? Who knows. |
