E92 Starting issue
So i think i may be on to something on my N52. when i push brake and start button with key in nothing happens, but if i hold the start button for 10 seconds all dash lights come up but still no crank. i went ahead and scanned the cas module and got these codes. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1...it?usp=sharing
before you say replace the starter im thinking its an immobiliser issue with the cas module because they say the starter relay is built in the cas module so it has to be some problem with it.i took the cas module apart and didnt see anything burnt but even if i clear the cas codes the one that keeps coming back is engine start starter error. any thoughts or tips? |

I’ve also heard of folks having issues with key slots as well. Good suggestion for OP. I’d second the idea of checking into this.

Why Not test your Starter.
ONLY do the following if it does not start. Take a Long Socket Extension like 10 inch long in total length. use a 6 and a 4 inch extenion together. Then, open Hood. look at your Intake Port. Between each Intake Port there is a Space. The Last Space between cylinder 5 and 6 closest to windshield. look straight down and you should be able to see the Starter. (Round, silver, google e90 starter pictures) Put extension on it. LIGHTLY hit it with a Hammer twice. Lightly like holding a Nail on a a piece of wood, and the first 2 taps to get it to hold.... that lightly. then start the car. if it starts, then it's your starter. also, jump your car, if it starts, iis your Battery not holding enough charge or a Drain somewhere. shut all Heating and Radio off in the car. Good luck. |

I had the same issue this weekend. Battery was fine, just replaced the stater 2 weeks ago, could not jump start the car with putting the clamps on the battery posts.
BUT then I put the negative on the oil filter housing and it started right up. Jacked the car up, pulled the plastic cladding from behind the drivers side wheel well and pulled the broken ground wire out. It had oxidized to a point were it was breaking up to bits in my hand. No one in the greater NYC area had a new ground strap so I went to Rysz Storage Battery Co in Norwalk, CT and he made me a new ground strap in 10min for $15.00. He was able to match the cable ends exactly. I bolted it on and the car fires instantly. |

I had a similar issue too and still issues after starter replaced. Mine ended up being the positivre terminal/junction under hood passenger side. Wires fried a bit and sheathing melted. Had to replace power wire to starter and little terminal piece too.
