Sirius satellite radio lifetime plan credits the first year that was paid by BMWNA

Sirius has just extended their lifetime plan offer which had expired end of last month - see below from www.sirius.com:

Subscribe for the lifetime of your radio! Yes really, we're not kidding. Pay $499.99 once, forget about bills altogether, and enjoy SIRIUS for a long, long time to come. (Offer ends January 31, 2006.)

According to my dealer, Sirius will credit you the one year subscription that BMW has paid on your behalf, so you can subtract $142.45 from the above $499.99 and get a life-of-radio subscription.

If you plan on keeping the car for a long time, or just like the idea of providing some residual value for the next owner, this could be a good deal.

Apparently there is a number to call and procedure to go through, and as soon as I have these I will post them.

Call 800 # and extend your service.
It's true as I did mine yesterday. 7/5.
Tell Sirius that u paid $142.45 when u bought the radio.
They will deduct from $499.99 & you pay balance of $357.54.
Worth it if your keeping car good 4 years or so. Like $10.00 per month?

I believe it is only USA, but I also seem to recall there were some announcements about Canada being added. I would not assume that other countries are covered, and even if they are, don't assume that a license for USA would actually work elsewhere. Best idea would be to check with Sirius directly.

It does not work in Asia or for right not anywhere outside the US. I believe they are working on Canada and Mexico. Now will they credit me since I just activated a rcvr and the lifetime contract was expired at the time I activated?

Did the dealer help you with signing up? My dealer said it was between me and Sirius. What was the process, and how did you authenticate yourself to Sirius?

When my dealer installed Sirius, they told me I have to activate the service myself. The iDrive display had an option to call Sirius on my connected bluetooth phone to activate. It told me what my ESN number is to use in the call. I kept a record of that and told it to call them. You only need to give them the number for authentication, then they send a message to your device to activate it.

Of course you can call them the normal way if you don't have a BT phone connected. But this was just a nice piece of integration that I didn't expect

That has got to be one of the coolest examples of integration that I have heard of yet! It never occurred to me that they would go this far!
