BMW roof rack; but no option for fairing

Has anyone used a fairing for the BMW Base Support racks?

Unfortunately, the Thule fairing does not fit properly on the factory bars.

The supports are not spaced properly and the fit is not tight or secure.

The good news is that Inno makes a compatible fairing. I've just ordered one after contacting the company that sold me the Thule. Great customer service.

I bought mine from ORS Racks Direct ( Link to fairing). Great customer service.

I ordered size medium (39"). I'll post a photo installed after it arrives. I hope it does not interfere with my BMW snowboard rack that slides into the rail.

How is the ORS fairing? Are you happy with fit and function? I am looking for a fairing myself.

Update...

The Inno was backordered, so I went without a fairing last winter.

I'm ordering the same medium Inno fairing and will post a photo when it arrived, if it's not backordered again.

I have the BMW factory rack with a Thule fairing and it fits/works perfectly. If you need pictures or a part number lemme know. I'd go ahead and post them but I'd have to take the picture and go home for the part number.

^ I've seen pictures of the Thule fairing on the BMW rack, and it looked like there were problems with the clamping mechanisms not being large enough to fit around the BMW cross bar.

It fit, but it was easily pulled off. Did you do any modifications to make it fit?

For the thule bike holders, I had to buy some 1" washers to put between the Xadapter kit and the roof rack.

Regarding the Inno fairing, it doesn't fit (medium size). The Mounting location tabs on each side run interference with the BMW bracket. See pics.

The "clamps" that come in the Thule box "fit" the BMW rack. When I first started to install mine the clamps just didn't fit the way I thought they should but after seeing them on other local BMW's I pressed on with my install. In the end it mounted up just fine and I haven't had any problems at all.

I will say that the way the clamps mount to the bars makes the fairing easy to steal if one so desired but so far I haven't had any problems there. I figure if the clamp system was better a thief is still going to steal it.

Hope that helps some.

An update from me as well...

I received the medium Inno and found that it did not fit either.

The Thule physically fit, but the clamping mechanism would not securely fasten.

The search continues...

hello,
I just wanted to let everyone know, i have been running the thule fairing for the past couple of years, held up great. with that said i did have one issue, and it was when BMW dealer decided to put my car in the wash when i told them i didn't want them to. any how the arms of the clamps broke, Dealer ended up replacing the fairing. that was the only time it came apart over the past 3 years i had it.

I have to say it's pretty sturdy on there, i pull the rack off when i get my car washed and it never popped off or came loose.

the upper part isn't on any kind of groove.. just pressure and angle of the clamp is holding it down, the rear is in the groove.

i am very confident that it will stay on under any conditions.
