Tire size recommendations for new 20" wheels

Hello all,

I currently run factory style 313 19" wheels on my 335is.

I custom ordered new 20" wheels with the following specs:

F - 20x8.5 et 38
R - 20x10 et 41

I am thinking 255/30/20 for the front and 295/25/20 for the rear.

Currently lowered on Eibach Pro Kit lowering springs. I would prefer not to roll fenders and minimize any rubbing.

Thanks!

I don't know too much about 20" fitment on our platform but from my knowledge and experiences I don't think you'll be able to fit 295s without any fender modifications.

Also, 335is owners usually have issues with even 245/35/19 in front due to the ducts for the additional cooling; 235/35/19 is usually the 'no issue fitment' size. 255/30/20 would definitely require some shaving of the the fender liner for sure, since there's a 0.8" increase in radius between 255/30/20 and 235/35/19.

Also, do you plan on keeping your 313Ms? I've been looking for a set myself, my 335is came with 225Ms.

Thanks for your feedback. I am taking your input into account because I had not given thought to the ducts for additional cooling.

I think you meant diameter, not radius. I actually got .8" larger going from my current stock size of 225/35/19 to my firstly 255/30/20. That's looking like too much based on the point you made.

If I try a smaller size, say 245/30/20, the diameter increases .6" (from stock) Maybe that's a safer bet? In total, I am calculating .3" more in diameter from the 'no issue fitment' to the newly considered 245/30/20.

I also have a E46 that I daily. I am going to swap the 313 wheels onto it. If that doesn't work, I'll make them available to you. They are in near mint condition.

+1 for the bolded, I had these exact sizes on the front and rubbed with one and not the other

Idk where the hell I got some of my numbers from, but there's only a 0.55" difference in diameter between 235/35/19 and 355/30/20. We know the following to be true:
235/35/19 (rub-free) diameter is 25.5", approximate width 9.25"
245/35/19 (rubbing) diameter is 25.75", approximate width 9.65"

255/30/20 would have a diameter of 26.02" with approximate width of 10.04". Both dimensions are larger than the 245/35/19 which rubs, so we know the conclusion there.

245/30/20 is very similar in size to 245/35/19, which can be fitted if the proper areas are modified; IIRC there's a bolt on the radiator vent (driver's side) that needs to be shaved down. For whatever reason, I have not heard the oil cooler vent (passenger side) causing rubbing issues, however I would recommend doing some research there.

Safest bet would be 235/30/20, which is only slightly larger than the 'safe' 235/35/19. Another option would be 255/25/20, but this is a pretty small sidewall protecting your rim. Diameter is less than the 235/35/19, but I'm not sure how the larger width plays out since I have no experience testing this limit, the widest I've gone in front is a 235.

And yeah, please keep me posted on the 313s! I've been back & forth on so many wheel options for next year but I decided I would pull the trigger on 313Ms (not the 313 'BMW Performance) if I could find a good deal. I think the finish on the 313Ms complement Space Grey very well.
