Wiper Relay "click"
The fuse box, located behind the glove box, also contains the wiper relay. I noticed it making a fairly audible "click" upon activation/deactivation of the wipers. This is obviously the mechanical sound of the relay working, but it is a bit of an annoying noise in the cabin.
I haven't had a vehicle in which the wiper relay was this audible. Does anyone else have this in their E9X? Is there an updated part number for the relay that is quieter? |

On older models (mine 2006) that relay was prone to malfunctioning, and they had an upgraded relay. Don't know the year of change. Old model is blue, new one was green. New one had some more electronics in it and a smaller relay contact from what I have seen, which I suppose would be quieter. The symptoms of old one going bad was sometimes wipers not working at all, and they were parking going up one inch or so after going all the way down.
Neither old or new one I had an issue of them being loud. |

OP, I would be interested in the results. My 2011 has a faint click of the relay. When I say faint, I mean you can only hear it at a dead stop with all hvac and radio functions off. The road noise alone covers up any wiper relay noise and I think that's pretty normal. I'd highly doubt my relay would be "going bad" at 40k miles.
