Yeah I got you now. So the common thing to look for is the letter M stamped on the JBBE (the H3 or H4 may have the sunshade relay but it isn't always guaranteed)

The Universal JBBE/Sunblind Rule:

Any M stamped JBBE with parts number relevant to the E9x car will allow a sunblind retrofit to work.

That makes my search so easy now!

So I've searched thru hundreds of JBBE and no M ones for USA cars. There are a bunch in Sweden and Latvia for European cars though. Not holding my breath for a JBBE so in the meantime I'm attempting to rig a temporary switch for the sunshade so my kids in the back can put it up or down.

I got a reverse polarity switch which sent the shade halfway up. Then I put it back down and back up but it only went half way before sticking in that position. Also the motor is either not getting any power any more or not budging. It is all silent since normally when these motors are trying to move they buzz and click away so I think it may be my wiring.

What set up did you guys use to test or power the shade?

The only thing I can think I am doing wrong is my wire gauges are all miss matched. The shade wire harness lead is a 20 gauge size, my wire extensions are like 18 or 16 and the reverse polarity switch has a thick 12 gauge prewiring that I connected to everything else.

Use the single switch form an older e46 or e39.

They have a proper switch with timer for the blind.

Yes those are the sliding anchor pieces that allow the arms to slide along the tracks. i believe they are universal for all BMW sunshades in all BMW cars since 2006

i have the rear side door sunshades, and have the roller blind ready, just needs a new motor and im waiting for pdc mounts since im retrofitting front and rear and would do the blind and pdc at one time.

i found a cheap buhler motor, different housing but looks to mount the same

Kerstboom thanks for your write up man! i have a kline car too prod. 06/07 my H1 jbbf did have those relays but i didnt have some mosfets so the shade didnt work. I found a H3 jbbf 9153965 factory coded with ncs, and updated and changed vin with winkfp and the shade worked.

Finally got around to getting a new JBE module and it is a JBBFR III H3 version. Had to convert my car from KCan to DCan for this and unfortunately it does not control my sunshade or servotronic..

Time to go looking for an M JBE 3

All you need is 5m of speaker wire and the 4x pins.

Go to a car junk yard (where they break cars), and then cut the 54 pin plug from the Jbbr (under the glovebox).

Then remove 4 pins and solder the wires/pins to your 5m speaker cable and then install.

You may need the 3 pin purple plug for the blind end.

There is a much easier and better way to make this loom. I tried to buy the ready-made loom above but I was told no longer available.

I'm not aware of BMW selling these pins bare, only with cable in a repair wire format. Note there are different versions of the pin depending on the gauge of wire. You need the biggest version available, as 0.75mm2 is the largest size recommended for this style of pin. If you don't have the proper crimper to crimp these, then buy the BMW repair wire with a pin pre-crimped on the end. The repair wire part number is 61130006664. If you want to crimp the pins yourself, they can be bought separately. The pins are from the MQS family made by TE. The TE part number is 5-963716-1. The vendors i use for pins are RS-Online, Farnell and Mouser. One of them usually has stock.

The part number for the female pin at the JBE end is 5-963715-1.

On the cable, I buy my automotive cable from a company in Germany. they have most colours and will sell short lengths. I also get the proper colours as it makes finding the correct wire easier in the future in case there's troubleshooting required. I didnt measure what length i needed. I did not crimp the pins on at the blind end until the cable was in so that i had the perfect length.

I can't say that the H4 will work or not, I know that when I used an H4 it did not work.

An H3 should work, but you will need to make sure that the H3 is using the same (or newer) firmware AND that you dump the currect config (using NCSexpert) from the old H3.

DO NOT just buy an H3 and plug it it, this could damage you car.

Excuse my ignorance, but why would just plugging in a H3 damage the car? I am planning to fit an M JBE this weekend but this has spooked me.

Because, the h3 could be setup for a convertible or an x1 or an early x3 and any devices that connected to it could be wrong.

Its the coding that needs to be correct.

Say for instance you press the AC button and the and both the rear windows roll down or you boot opens at 70mph?

The JBBR needs to be correctly coded to the car that its in, you have no idea what car the jbbr comes from (unless you take it out the car yourself).

just because it fits does not mean its correctly coded for your car, 99% its not.

It is game over because the rear sunshade blind that I bought from eBay is dead. After installing correctly the new JBE coded, after changing the plugs by the pdf file I sow and finding them and putting in the correct socket and everything is electric motor is dead. 800$ I put in the trash with shipping to be. congrats to me... So the next step is to find a new electric sunshade motor or repair mine. How I find it is I get a battery on 12V I power the sunshade the shade isn't doing anything. The order shipped 6 months I don't even try it because it was so rainy in the past months in Bulgaria and I find the best days to in days I am working remotely from home to work on my car. It's my mistake ..... It's sad but that's the reality. If someone can help me with how to report the electric motor on the sunshade I will be happy...

My motor broke right away when I got the sunshade deck.
I have no idea why the motors are priced so much brand new. You’re better off buying a used shade with motor.

I converted my shade to a manual shade. It’s always up anyways.

Hello, today I get new rear sunshade electric again and it's working finally.

Been a while since I've been in this thread or just working on my e90 in general

I managed to source the power cable for the rear sunshade; ECS also started carrying them a year or so after I ordered mine so if you are having trouble sourcing a cable (I did), you can order through them using the part# mentioned earlier in the thread

That being said, I also managed to source an "M" JBBF. Do I have the correct one? I bought it such a long time ago and honestly don't even remember which car it was from but vaguely remember it may have been from an X5? I don't remember exactly, I think it was from one of the "X" models. Build date stamped on the JBBF says 1/19/2017 so obviously not from an e90 unless this one I picked up was one someone bought brand new as a replacement/retrofit at one point. Someone also mentioned the blue plug being on either the left or right side: is the only way to tell if I have the correct one is to compare it to my current JBBF installed in the car?



Will this make sure all my other modules continue to function after I swap out the JBBFs? I have Xenon Adaptive Headlights and a few other "factory-upgrade" options I want to ensure still work after installation

From what I can tell is the part number stamped on my JBBF is 61359364819 which is the same one mentioned earlier in the thread, so I'm assuming I've got the correct unit

Can anyone confirm that swapping my modules won't make my other options cease functions however? The M JBBFs are the "Master" modules so I am assuming they have everything needed to keep my options functioning but just want to confirm so. Just got back from outside and did a little looking around. The JBBF isn't that hard to find (undercover panel on the passenger side, 2 Torx screws; up in the upper right side) and I did confirm my current JBBF has the blue connector in the left slot



It seems Past-"Me" did a lot more research beforehand to confirm what I needed and did a good job at sourcing parts. It's been nearly 3 years since I last looked into this retrofit and I've basically forgotten most of it. Car is a 10/2009 build 2010 335i btw

That being said, if anyone can provide more information to alleviate the remaining concerns above however, that would be great

That should be ok for the jbbr, but you will need to code it to you car *****do not***** just plug it in and expect it to work like yours does now.... it wont.

Just default code the jbbr (using ncsexpert) and that will pick up your cars coding and configure the jbbr so that it all works correctly.

Also make sure that you add the rear blind option to the cars FA (vehicle order) before you do the default code (so that the jbbr will "know" that you now have the blind), again ncsexpert will do this.
