Wiper Relay

Maybe an old topic, but on the early E90 models, the wipers may start to "park" higher than normal. There is a DIY by mag120000x that addresses this topic. I just wanted to bring the issue back up because I just replaced the old blue relay with the updated green relay (P/N 61366980177). The new relay solved more problems than just the park height of the wipers. For my car, the auto wiping function recently started misbehaving. The wipers in auto mode were inconsistantly wiping and were not properly adjusting to road speed and heavy rain. Worst, was they would never go into high speed even as the rain level or road speed increased.

I finally got around to replacing the relay this week. It solved all the issues my wipers were having and they even operate smoother. If you've not replaced the relay with the updated part, I recommend you do so. The part is about $13 on line and takes 3 minutes to replace. In mag12000x's DIY he goes into cleaning the internal contacts of the wiper motor assembly, which is not really necessary (and kept me from replacing the relay for almost 2 years, because I didn't want to take the time to dig into the wiper mechanism - LOL).

Thank you! I'll check it out, my wipers get noisier as the years go by, maybe this is the issue.

Great post..

You could also reinitialize the rain sensor with INPA if you have the software. worked wonders for me as I had that lag, and delays when it poured heavily.

Thanks. I was going to use my BT cable and check into the rain sensor operation as well. It seems like the brake drying function is not working very well either. I'll do that this weekend.

By now this is a VERY old topic, but I wanted to add my experience.

The wipers on my 330i weren't parking correctly and were sitting too high. I ordered the new green relay to replace the original blue relay and that solved the problem. The wipers now stop immediately at the bottom.

I also have a 06 325i with a 6/06 build date, and that already has the green relay, wipers work perfectly there.
