$1500 for mods - what would you do?

Hey all,

Newbie here. I will be getting a 2010 328xi Coupe in the next few months. I've allotted $1500 for cosmetic modifications (exterior or interior). Just wanted to get some suggestions on what everyone would do. One thing on my list for sure are tinted windows.

Thanks!

I'd hate to recommend a certain brand/style without seeing the car BUT, you'll definitely want to go with 19"s over anything else. With the 19" in place you could most likely wait with a drop for a while.

19" would make ALL the difference .... do you have any pics of the car to post? You'll grab lots of ideas from others if we can see what color you're going with. I probably wouldn't go with anything real pricey just because you'll have the typical potholes etc. to contend with ...

312 represent! Ha, I love the windy city. Used to live up there.

I've found that oversized tires help to fill the fender wells without having to drop the car. Several board members run 245/30-19 front and 275/30-19 rear. Personally, I'm running 235/35-19 front and 245/35-19 rear (new shoes ) The front fender gap is bigger than I'd want but is tolerable.

As for wheels, Alufulgen has a new design coming out (check in the wheels section) that looks to have some serious potential. Hard to go wrong with CSL replicas (Alugfulgen or VMR CSL). ToadHollow's M6 reps look sweet but only work on a black e92 or a silver e90 IMO. Avoid LM reps. I've seen the Linea corse reps in person and.... They just look small. Just my opinion. Some love them.

Personally I'm sporting Morr VS7s. Love them but they are hard to come by.

Tint, badge delete, matte black grills, and exhaust tips also help tremendously and are all cheap. Could probably do all four for ~$350

If you get into new rims now, you will have to do suspension which will cause you to spend more than $1500. So for now I'd suggest you to take it easy and do cosmetic stuff

Springs (400-500 installed), tint (200-300 installed), BMW Performance black grills (120), painted reflectors (50?) are very basics cosmetic mods. That's slightly under 1k.

Or if you like to spend all 1500, you can do BMW performance pedals, knob (AT or MT), shifter boot, e-brake boot. (And if you're MT, short shift kit).

Then later, when your tires worn out a bit and kinda bored with look, get a new wheels/tires.

After that, exhaust will be next, than stop it right there.
If you spend more money, you'll regret that you didn't get an 335i or M3 (with all the money you spent for the mods).

So far I've changed out my halos(H8), tinted to 18%, and got matte black grills for $380.
you can change out the emblems for another 80$ or so...

don't just do springs, do coilovers if you want to drop
wheels + tires + drop will go past $1500 if you want a not shit set up
procede?

On the XI, coilovers! Not only will it give you a nice looking drop, but will make the ride a lot better.

I will never do just springs ever again. Bottomed out too easily and ruined my rims...I thought I learned my lesson with the Integra by getting a shock/spring setup on my TSX, but then went back to just springs on the G coupe and the ride was horrible...and made it extremely easy to bottom out. I will look into picking up some coilovers next Spring. For now with winter coming, I would just use whatever money it will take to get legal tints and front aero lip and M3 trunk lip. That should be around $700-$800 I believe. Save the rest.

M sport steering wheel, M3 trunk lid spoiler, debadge, and then start saving for wheels and tires.

Thanks for all of the input. I truly am new to this - I hardly know what all of the terms/phrases being used actually mean. I guess I have a long way to go - but that is part of the fun, right? Got to start somewhere!
