DMF needs replacing.....
I have just got a 2006 320d touring. It didn't cost me a lot but I am still not pleased to have detected a rattle when changing gear plus clutch judder when hot.
So I am assuming it is going to need a new clutch plus DMF. I'll be doing it myself so any advice before I dive in? Should I be ordering anything other than a DMF, clutch kit and exhaust gaskets? Also, (bear in mind I am new to BMWs) is there any way of telling which paticular DMF I need (there appear to be a lot of part numbers) other than pulling the old one out before buying the new one? Lastly, anyone gone to a solid flywheel? If so, any downsides? (eg rougher changes etc?) Oh, and how heavy is the gearbox? Is it a one man lift on my back on my drive or will I need to get help? I think that is all the questions for the moment but I am sure there will be more ;-) |

The gearbox isn't that heavy, you should be able to handle it. You might want to change the gearbox oil while ur @ it. You need new bolts for the DMF as they should not be reused.

Ok. Thanks. I will put gear oil and bolts on the list. Even doing it myself this is not going to be cheap...

You are probably a bit too far north to use A1 Clutches, but I would recommend them.
They quoted around £350 for the clutch to be replaced. During the actual replacement, they phoned to say the DMF really needed replacement as well. (No surprise there, as I had clutch judder on occasions). Total price was £730 That was done in just less than a day and included a courtesy car. 2011 325d LCI at ~ 95k miles, now done 125k with no issues.

That price looks pretty reasonable though considering the price of the parts. |
