Pull a spark plug and see if it looks similar. Looks like time for a compression test!

Was your car throwing codes about that cylinder?

VCG would be the first place I'd look. As others have said check around your spark plugs too.

Absolutely not......Was there any oil caught in the dips next to the coils ? Its a good indicator that your valve cover gasket is leaking oil.

If is VCG it would be soaked in oil above the decoupler too, not just bellow and not just that particular injector.

Yikes. If there was that much oil found on the injector, surprised you were able to run without any errors unless you did and that's why you pulled the injector.

This is caused by a leaking valve cover. Oil leaks out and fills the cavities in the cylinder head, which are the spark plug holes, fuel injector holes, and coolant freeze plugs. When you remove the injector it comes out soaked in oil because it's hole is filled with oil. It's that simple.

Replace valve cover gasket (or entire valve cover preferably), clean up oil, and you're good.

I had a leaking VCG which was replaced back in August 2015. Could this be the remnants of the oil that came out from that VC leak? I replaced the cover and gasket at the same time.

The plug was wet smelling like fuel. Crap. Good suggestion on the compression test.

Yes, it threw a code for this cylinder and it wouldn't go away with a restart. I removed the injector because the spark plug smelled like fuel and was wet.

Maybe the left over oil from the last leak which was addressed in August of 2015?

The hole for the spark plug itself is dry. No oil or anything. I guess it's always a good idea to wipe down injectors after doing a VCG job?

No oil in those cavities. I'm thinking it's the left over oil from when I did the VC + G back in August last year?

It's a new cover and gasket. I don't think it's that (I hope not at least).

Yeah I don't know how either. Now I'm thinking of removing all the injectors and wiping them down plus new decouplers and then monitoring. Thoughts?

I hope it's not something more serious. I haven't checked the other injectors yet but I did replace injector 3 about 6 months ago and it was soaked too. I'm thinking this is oil left from the old VCG leak?

Yeah me too. It wasn't until a couple of weeks ago that I got a misfire code which would go in and out but the car remained stumbling.

I've replaced the valve cover and gasket recently (back in August of last year). None of the cavities have any oil in them. I've never seen oil come back after soaking it up. Could it be that these injectors have oil in them from the last leak (which was major) because I've never pulled them out to wipe them down after replacing the VC + G?

Thanks everyone for replying. I want to pull another injector but I heard you have to use a new decoupler each time and I certainly don't have extras on me so until I pick some up from the dealer, I can't pull them out because I've also heard the seal expands when removed for more than 5 minutes. Any validity to this information?

Seems if injectors are that nasty, plugs would be fouled as well? May want to replace those. They're relatively cheap...

Yes this is most definitely why. There is no feasible way for oil to get on the injectors other than a valve cover leak. If you didn't clean them up last time, then the oil isn't going to go anywhere, at least not for a very long time.
