Ebay intercooler, logs inside

I realize some will flame me for putting in an a 5" stepped intercooler I snagged for $180 shipped and I know its not he best $$ can buy, but damn it is pretty good dollar for dollar!

Install was a breeze, it fit perfectly without issue. It's been hot here in Wisco the past could of weeks ambient temps in the 95+ degrees. The car was begging for a little help so I decided to pull the trigger.

Logs of a couple back-to-back pulls below. Ambient was 80*, IATs start about 10 degrees above ambient. After pulls IAT drop back down quickly.

This IC gets a thumbs up for me, if your on a stock IC no reason not to upgrade at this price point.

Garage List
I bought the same one...installed it this past week. The fit of the hoses was spot on...the driver's side fit great. The passenger's side didn't seem to fit exactly right. I had to drill a new hole in the mounting flange and ended up stripping out the stock mounting hole. I got a 2" sheet metal screw from home depot and added a stainless steel zip tie just in case...

No logs yet, but I am encouraged by these results...

I got to log it at lunchtime today...ambient was about 5* warmer today than with the stock IC and humidity was about the same before and after.

Stock IC was 122* at start and 135* at end

eBay IC was 104* start and 106* at end

I’m totally pleased with it still. I don’t plan on going past stage 1+ since I’m on 90k mile stock turbos so it’s totally fit for purpose for me...

Looks just like an ARM 5" from what I can see. My ARM 5" has served me well so far.

Older thread, I know, but only the second log is "ok" (not good)-the first one is terrible. 93F to 126F on 15 psi? Ugh. That is not good performance, god help you if you turn the boost up or have upgraded turbos. IMO buy one of the known good big ones or if you want to save money make your own using a nice big fat Garrett core.

If you'd bother to read the entire thread you'd see this was before and after logs. Stock turbo car no bigger plans ATM, I'm happy with the purchase.

You wrote "here are a couple of back to back logs". Usually that means back to back, not with a FMIC change out in between, lol. Regardless glad you're happy.

Unboxed and installed with logs.

Data logs:
  • With stock FMIC:

https://datazap.me/u/vbp6us/2010-e90...ata=3-14-15-22

  • With new FMIC:

https://datazap.me/u/vbp6us/2010-e90...og=0&data=3-22

Fitment was great. Not one issue with some muscling. No cutting required.

don't take this the wrong way but that would be a reason not to buy (or return) this fmic. 15deg rise at stock boost levels!?

Sure that can be better with a 7" intercooler but you need to compare only until the end of 3rd gear in the two logs.

Stock 3rd gear 3-6.5k rpm: 21° IAT rise
5" stepped 3rd gear 3-6.5k rpm: 7° IAT rise

That will even be more difference in a multiple gear pull...

I have almost the same 5" stepped intercooler and run stage 2+ E30 or E50 with no problems at all, performs way better than a stock IC.
