High Beams Aren't Working Properly!
Hello All,
I am a new owner of a 2006 E90 325i and I love it! However, it seems like I have a little problem and was wondering if anyone could help. My xenon high-beams (push light stalk away) doesn't seem to stay on. After I toggle the high-beams on, it'll stay on for 5-10 sec and then it'll turn off and stop working for a bit. It'll come back randomly and then shut off again. It's getting really annoying so I was wondering if anyone have had the same issue before I resort to the dealership. Any help is appreciated! Thanks! |

It is most likely connectors in your HIDs. Dosen't seem like your HIDs need replacement since your low beams work fine. I am no expert on this at all but it seems to me that your wires have water damage, faulty, fried, or not connected properly.
Let us know, I am curious as well!

That's very strange considering it's just an actuator that moves the beam from the high and low position. RedSled asked a good question!

if you have automatic high beams then they are controlled by the light collecting probe on the back of your rear vie mirror. I thinking double tapping the stalk allows you to override it. You will see the icon change on the dash. I use mine all the time.

I don't believe I have automatic high beams. Did they have it back in the 2006 BMW 325i?
The low beam xenon's work perfectly. The high beams will turn on for a couple seconds and then off by itself. And then I'll try toggling it on/off and nothing will happen. If I leave it toggled on, it'll turn on sometimes and then off and same thing repeatedly. |

The weather has gotten a bit warmer temporarily in where I live and the high-beam issue has seem to disappeared! This leads me to believe that the cold is the culprit. I guess that something has to be lubed up so that the "shutter" doesn't get stuck when it's cold.
Does that make sense? |

Odd, they should work fine in cold temperature. Is there excessive condensation or moisture in the headlights?

Alright, there seems to be some confusion here. The OP said he has Xenon headlights not HID headlights, so he has the standard headlight setup, which doesn't have a deflector to change between high beam and low beam. If the OP does have standard headlights, then I believe he simply has a bad relay. It has moisture in it. When it gets cold the relay will not hold position.
OP look in the fuse panel and see if there is a high beam relay. Or it might be under the hood somewhere. I can't answer this for you as I have HIDs, so my car is different than yours. If it does have a relay, then replace it and see if that cures the problem. |

Correct. I have xenon headlights (the projector things). There doesn't seem to be moisture that I can see by looking into the headlamp casing.
I'll have to do what Efthreeoh recommended. I guess I have to find out where my fuse panel is first - haha! |

Nope, never figured out a solution but I also found out that it only happens during the winters here. When it's warmer out it doesn't seem to have that problem!

Well that is strange. I live in a warm climate place but I guess I will have to just take it to the stealership to have them look at it. =(. Have you had any other issues with your car other then this???

Thanks for your post about the headlight high beam issue for HID.
Did the root cause for this headlight ever get determined and is there a solution aside from the Stealership? |

Same Problem
I'm experiencing the same problem.
The research I'm finding is when the lights are turned on there is no HI/LO beam, per se. The headlight assembly has a flap (or eye lid if you will....) that drops down and covers the high beam in normal mode. When you call for high beams, the flap moves up and out of the way to expose the full Xenon beam. From what I understand, the only way to fix the flaps is to replace the entire headlight assembly, which isn't bad cost wise, until you add in the Adaptive Headlight option, then it goes through the roof! Not sure if there's a work around to repair it or not. If you have a solution to the flap issue, any help would be appreciated. |
