I used TSB last year when I ordered from Tischer my car alarm. The border guards were all business and not a pain to me. Now that TSB is opening Saturdays from 9am to 1pm October 1st it'll get busy at the border.

It's a bit off topic but for those of you in Vancouver, has anyone ever picked up tires in Point Roberts or Blaine before? I know about TSB in Point Roberts but I've had many people telling me the border guards there are a pain on the way back to Canada.

I was thinking of looking for a place in Blaine instead and I'm not worried about lineups since I have a Nexus. I've been referred to Hagen's (http://www.hagensofblaine.com/Site/Home.html).

Has anyone used these guys for shipping before for tires?

i just came back last weekend from Point Roberts (The Letter Carrier) picking up some parts for my other car, bought about $200 of parts, declared everything to the customs guy and he just glanced at the invoice and passport and told me to have a nice day

no sales taxes, no duties, no scare tactics, no stereotypical over authoritative customs attitude behaviour

$200 compared to $1100US is a bit different so I'm prepared to pay taxes, I was just hoping not to pay duty

As for the lineups I was wondering about traffic now that TSB opens Saturday...

I've heard good things about Hagen's. My bro has picked up dirtbike tires and stuff from there, even had a client have a whole set of high-end appliances delivered there.

Should be no probs i would think.

Finally pulled the trigger on buying my tires with Tire Rack. Decided with the blizzaks WS60's and having them shipped to hagen's in Blaine:

4 225/45R-17 Bridgestone Blizzak WS60 In Stock $137.00 $548.00
1 BS/FS Warranty Packet In Stock N/C N/C
1 Tire registration card -retail In Stock N/C N/C
4 Mount and Balance (No Charge) N/C N/C
4 17x8 Rial Salerno Silver In Stock $118.00 $472.00
20 Required lugbolt for vehicle In Stock N/C N/C
4 Bmw factory center cap *new* + In Stock $9.00 $36.00

Shipping: $95.12
Tax: $.00
Excise Tax: $.00
State Disposal Fund Fee: $.00
Order Total Including Shipping: $1,151.12

So convert it to CAD roughly $1229.40CAD using www.xe.com, not including tax/duty. I really wanted to buy locally but I could not find a place that would come close even with Tax/Duty on top of the $1229.

I just ordered from Tirerack as well.

4 225/45R-17 Bridgestone Blizzak LM-60 In Stock $150.00 $600.00
4 17x8 Rial Salerno Silver In Stock $118.00 $472.00
.. etc
but mine's coming UPS to Canada, so the UPS shipping is > $200 USD, plus GST, duty & brokerage.

My total is $1524 USD.

Btw, if you bought with a credit card, your actual exchange rate will be something like 2.5-3 cents higher than xe. I ordered my set on monday and the exch rate on my visa bill was 1.12xx. Ouch, but what can you do.

So that comes to roughly $1,707.00Cdn? That's only a few bucks less than what I paid for for 18" M3 reps with the WS-60's.

More or less. Included in the $1524 USD was $36 for bmw center caps, a $235 shipping bill for UPS ground, ~$60 GST, ~$70 duty, $16 tire tax and $30 brokerage. So shipping & taxes amounted to ~$411 USD of that bill.

As far as the dollar exchange, nobody can predict the currency market. It's just by pure chance that ordering today might've saved a few cents on the dollar vs. a few days ago.

That's of no significance to me. LM-60s are a more expensive tire than WS-60s generally. And as for "M3 reps"... I have no idea what those are, and what their typical value is. And coming from where?

Nice. We'll have to compare notes on how we fare with WS-60 vs LM-60 in an Edmonton winter.

What made you decide to go 18" instead of 17" for winters?

yeah, absolutely. Mine should arrive any day now.

well, just wanted to be future proof....LOL. To be honest I don't drive that much, price difference is nominal and 18" looks way better I hope

Take it easy, guy. I was merely pointing out how close your cost was as opposed to me having had to search for my rims and rubbers from local sources.

I almost bought from Tire Rack myself but they moved the arrival date at their warehouse 3 times on me and I had planned to pick them up across the border during my 1 week vacation. It didn't work out so I had to go to plan B.

Are these run-flat or not?

Are TMPS included?

Thanks

I'm easy.

I'm not happy about the shipping cost, however I probably wouldn't have found rims locally here in Edmonton that I like. And my general experience with tire quotes here is that they are way high.

Ordering from Tirerack seemed like the best option for me.

I could see how living in Vancouver, with your larger market and proximity to the border, you have more reasonable options open to you.
