Interested in your smell test after install. I'm considering the exact same setup when I do the ABC's in a few weeks.

Also interested in the sound test if you did mufflers. Or even if you didn't.

I’ve been running gutted DPF (DOC still in) for almost 2 years. It is better smell than the Buzzken DOC we have on the X5. I was the one than dmanb2b mentioned had JR 2. I went to 2.8 this summer. I am now considering sending a downpipe to Matt W for DOC addition.

Megs335, I have a Bohl pipe that has a non diesel cat on it. Can you convert to DOC? Also have an Ecotune pipe with no cat. Let me know which would be better to convert to the DOC please. Thank you.

Thanks for the report. I'm going full ATM TBE with DOC and mufflers in a couple of weeks. Can't wait.

Is anyone willing to post a sound video of a downpipes with a cat? Slight thread revival, but this seems like a good group to ask..
I'm curious if I'll still be able to hear some turbo whistle, or if it completely eliminates it. I don't want the smell, so I think I'm going to go for a catted pipe unless I can confirm in person that the smell isn't so bad!

What a timely thread revival. I'm visiting Matt this weekend to get a DOC welded into my downpipe. I can definitely make a short sound video after. My exhaust is stock otherwise with an empty SCR.

I was wondering though - since the DOCs only work well at higher temps, would it be beneficial to wrap the downpipe so it can retain the heat a bit longer when standing at a traffic light?

Mine works really well once warmed up. Can comfortably stand behind car while idling and not feel like your clothes will stink of soot. Can't hurt wrapping, but works well without too

DWR and I had talked way back when about wrapping the DP to get cat to work more effectively. I guess the EGT1 temp would increase some (minor impact though). I would do a before and after measure of the EGT1 to see actual delta. Good luck and let us know how the Matt mod goes please.

My cat is wrapped in a ceramic blanket and it's keep nice and warm and hit operating temps as soon as I drive off.

That would be great! mainly wondering about drone and turbo whistle... I wouldn't mind hearing the turbos, but drone is the enemy. I've got an X5 though, so I'm not sure what that means for volume/ drone in my setup vs yours.

Got a before and after wrap comparison, please? EGT1 only one still operating. A normal going down freeway number is what I’m interested. Not at idle nor WOT please sir.

How did you get a ceramic blanket around the downpipe? Do you have a link for me?

BB_cuda: unfortunately, I won't be able to do before/after measurements because the downpipe is already off...

Getting blanket on with dp off car was easy but messy, getting in while in car was really bad.

Temperature units, boy! I presume degF. I'm a thermal engineer so this is the reason for my pickiness (and poor spelling).

Yep that's the one nice pics. My egt is reading typically around 450f just driving normal around town. When you coast it reads lower like in the upper 300s and then warms back up and when I use moderate throttle it climbs to around 500. I need to log it that's really the best way to show.
