I have a 328i Sedan like you consider replacing your lifebloods (fluids) and increasing your oil change intervals if you've only been doing the once per year changes.

- Spark Plugs
- Manual Trans Fluid Drain/Fill
- Brake Fluid Drain/Fill
- Coolant Drain/Fill
- Power Steering Drain/Fill
- Differential Fluid Drain/Fill
- Have your battery checked (I think there's lots of shops that do this free)
- Check your serpentine belt/tensioner pulley (common for these to need replacement)

There are DIY's for all of these on this forum in the DIY section. If you aren't the DIY type, check out your local indie shop for better pricing than dealer.
Add coils to that list.

What do you think about this service schedule?

I'm intertested to know why. Every BWM indy I've spoken to says there is no point in changing coils preventively until they fail...

Because they are fairly inexpensive and can start failing around 90k miles.

Hmmm. In the UK, a set of six OEM Delphi coils for my car is nealry $400. I wouldn't call that 'fairly inexpensive'...

They go for $240 for six in the states.. Sometimes you can find them on sale for about $215 or less.

Here is a set for a N55..

My 1st coil went at 287,000 miles. I replaced all 6 at that time. I bought BMW OE coils (Delphi) at a good price from my local dealer. The replacements are now sitting at 84,000 miles. Not a peep from any of them since.

I think there's a notion that if you have original Bosch coils, they may not be as reliable as either current Bosch or Delphi coils.

Also, Mike has another document called "So You Just Bought an E90" that you might want to hunt around for or request from him. It not only covers maintenance schedule, but advice about each system. For instance, he discusses that the alternator brushes will wear down around 100k miles and cause odd troubles - lots of excellent information.

Mike must have a differently built E90 form another manufacturer than mine. My alternator lasted 3 times that long. My coils went 285,000 miles before just one died. I doubt Mike has an E90 with as many miles as mine and a few others on E90 post and none of us have followed his old school maintenance schedule (which is just BMW's maintenance schedule prior to 1997.

My water pump went out at 5AM this morning. I was on the interstate and it was 27 degrees.
